Adrian Wojnarowski explains how Joel Embiid-Tyrese Maxey locker room dust up may have leaked
Over the past decade, Adrian Wojnarowski has reported on some of the biggest news in and around the NBA. Now that he's retired, the longtime insider pulled back the curtain on how the media could have obtained critical information regarding the Philadelphia 76ers.
Typically, when a team has a team meeting, it is behind closed doors and the details don't see the light of day. However, that wasn't the case with the Sixers following their Nov. 18 loss to the Miami Heat.
Within 24 hours of the team meeting, Shams Charania and other insiders reported on what transpired. The biggest storyline involved Tyrese Maxey, who allegedly called out Joel Embiid for being late to practice and other team functions.
While appearing on Carmelo Anthony's "7PM in Brooklyn" podcast, Adrian Wojnarowski gave his take on how the media might have obtained such secretive information.
(40:22) "If something happens in front of everbody in the locker room, here's what happens," Woj said. "Player leaves the locker room, calls his agent like holy s*** you won't believe."
"Assistant coaches are in there, equipment guys are in there. It's a gossip league, they can't wait to tell everybody what crazy thing happened."
Up until recently, Woj was one of the most connected reporters in the NBA media circuit. That changed in September when he decided to retire from ESPN in a move that shocked the league community.
Adrian Wojnarowski gives blunt take on information getting leaked in the NBA
After giving his thoughts on the Philadelphia 76ers' situation, Adrian Wojnarowski touched on information spreading around the league in general. He proceeded to give a blunt take on the matter that falls in line with the latest leak.
When new reports circulate in the league, one of the first things people wonder is who has something to gain from the information being out. Whether it be contract negotiations or trade rumors, stuff could be leaked to insiders in hopes of bettering or worsening a situation to one side's benefit.
As Adrian Wojnarowski sees it, information getting spilled isn't always that planned and complex. He believes that it boils down to the fact that people simply can't keep their mouths shut.
"It's not always, like, sinister," Woj continued. "I think people always think who is trying to hurt this guy to put this out. Mostly, it's guys just can't shut up. They just gossip and then it gets out."
Woj spent 37 years as a journalist and his breaking news in the NBA for outlets like ESPN and Yahoo Sports became a staple for the league.
Following his retirement, the longtime reporter is now embarking on a new journey in his career. Amid his departure from ESPN, Woj became the GM of the basketball program of his alma mater St. Bonaventure.
