"All my homies play for Canada"- Chet Holmgren unsure if he's supporting USA against Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lu Dort
OKC Thunder center Chet Holmgren shared his concern ahead of the exhibition game between the USA and Canada for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The two powerhouse teams are set to play a friendly match in preparation for the international games tonight. As an American who has Canadian teammates, Holmgren is unsure who to support.
Fans are excited to see the game between the USA and Canada, despite it being an exhibition game. Both teams are locked in and are looking to assert their dominance before the real competition starts. Team USA has collected their best players, while the Canadian national team has a young core of talented individuals.
With the Thunder, Holmgren has two Canadian teammates who are also key players for their national team. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Lu Dort are both major players for Team Canada. SGA was the leader in scoring for Canada with 24.5 during the 2023 FIBA World Cup, while Dort shot 34.5% from beyond the arc.
On social media, the runner-up for the 2024 Rookie of the Year shared his concern about who to support for tonight's exhibition game.
"All my homies play for canada but I got pride in the red white and blue, idk who to cheer for tonight," Holmgren shared on X.
One fan gave him the solution to support the USA but root for his teammates, SGA and Dort, to perform their best.

This offseason, the Thunder made some key moves to improve their roster. They traded away Josh Giddey in exchange for Alex Caruso, further enhancing their perimeter defense. Another key acquisition the team made this summer was signing German-American center Isaiah Hartenstein to a three-year, $87 million contract.
Hartenstein got a chance to share his thoughts on his recent move to OKC and is excited to share the frontcourt with Chet Holmgren.
"I think, high-IQ player. I think he's very skilled. I think we can play really good together. Defensively, having two of the top rim protectors on the court at the same time, it's not easy. But I'm really excited. That's one thing, I'm really excited to see how that goes. He's very talented, and I think with my IQ, I'll have to do a little bit more of the dirty work so he can chill a little bit," Hartenstein said.
Hartenstein had a breakout season for the New York Knicks during the 2023-24 campaign. He started 49 games, averaging 7.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists. The veteran big man might not produce a ton in the scoring department but he's shown his importance with his basketball IQ.
