Chris Broussard throws trade ideas for Anthony Davis involving Blazers & Nets: “Anthony Davis for Damian Lillard…Damian Lillard is 32”
Anthony Davis and the LA Lakers are running out of options. After Wednesday night's loss to the LA Clippers, the Lakers found themselves with a 2-9 record on the season.
The team has lost four consecutive games and is currently second to last in the Western Conference standings. The start of the 2022-23 NBA season has been nothing short of a nightmare for the Lakers. With the team falling into a deep hole, potential changes could be on the horizon.
One of those changes could involve the future of Anthony Davis. The superstar forward has been productive for the Lakers this season. Davis is averaging 23.0 points, 10.2 rebounds and 1.9 blocks per game. But with the current direction of the team, Davis could be the only asset on the roster.
NBA analyst Chris Broussard believes that the Lakers need to look to move AD. Appearing on "First Things First," Broussard suggested that the Lakers should be calling to see about potential trades:
“I would trade — I actually like this for both teams. And it’s been floated out there before. Anthony Davis for Damian Lillard. Straight up. Because here's the thing, and I get it. Because right now you might say Lillard's better. But here's the thing for Portland. Damian is 32, AD actually fits their timeline more than Damian does."
Could LA Lakers big man Anthony Davis be on the move?
The LA Lakers were one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA last season. After finishing 11th in the Western Conference, the hope was that things would change this season.
That idea has quickly evaporated, as the Lakers have been trending in the wrong direction rapidly. The Lakers currently rank 28th in points per game. Shooting has become a growing issue throughout the season. The numbers back it up, as the team is currently ranked dead last in 3-point percentage (29.3 %).
The Lakers have tried to do everything in their power to contend for titles over the years. That included mortgaging their future by trading numerous draft selections. The team's 2023 NBA draft pick is set to belong to the New Orleans Pelicans via an unprotected first-round swap rights from the Anthony Davis trade in 2019.
This means that the LA Lakers won't have a plethora of assets to intrigue teams in order to improve their roster. If the Lakers don't get back on track, they could be forced to make some difficult decisions.
One of those decisions could involve trading Anthony Davis. Although he's had his injury concerns over the years, Davis still has the highest trade value in the team.
Still just 29 years old, Davis has been a dominant two-way player when healthy. He's currently scheduled to be under contract for the next two seasons. After that, Davis will have an Early Termination Option for the 2024-25 season.
