Anthony Davis Injury update: NBA insider shares latest status of Lakers star's availability against 76ers

On Thursday, ESPN's Shams Charania reported about Anthony Davis' condition ahead of the LA Lakers' Friday matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. Davis was out on Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies with a foot injury he aggravated in their 115-103 loss against the Detroit Pistons on Monday.

AD appeared in the team's first seven games, leading the team in scoring and rebounding. The All-Star big man is averaging a league-best 32.6 points, 11.6 rebounds and 3.0 assists. His dominance on the court helped give the Lakers a 3-0 start. However, they've gone through a rough patch and have lost three out of their last four games with Davis.

According to Charania, the team is "hopeful" to get the nine-time All-Star back against the Sixers amid a foot injury that Davis has been dealing with for some time now.

"This is a nagging foot injury for him, heel injury that he's been dealing with since the end of last season. Over the summer, played with it in the Olympics.
"They're confident, there's nothing structurally wrong there. But something that he's gonna have to manage, pain tolerance wise. They're hopeful that 24, 48 hours off of that foot will help him going into tomorrow. JJ Redick said even last night that they expect Anthony Davis to try and give it a go on Friday."

The Lakers missed Davis in their loss against Memphis. The team only had one block during the entire game and struggled to defend the rim. They also had just 37 rebounds compared to the Grizzlies' 50. Meanwhile, LeBron James had to carry a major load offensively with 39 points in 35 minutes.

JJ Redick wants Anthony Davis back on the court

Anthony Davis took shots on the court before the Lakers' matchup with the Grizzlies. However, the team decided to sit him out and give him another day of rest. Redick discussed Davis's condition with the media after their 131-114 loss to Memphis.

"I don’t expect to go through it again on Friday,” Redick said. “I think for all of us, we want to take a long term view on all of our players’ health for an 82-game season and I think whatever he just did on the court – I didn’t watch it, obviously – but I just spoke with him before coming and talking to you guys."

The former NBA player remains positive Davis will return to action soon.
