Anthony Davis on LeBron James’ take on his recent performances: “He did say that I'm playing like my old self, so I'm trying to get back into that rhythm”
LA Lakers star Anthony Davis has been on a roll as he contributed to the LA Lakers' recent string of successful outings. With Davis saying that his superstar teammate LeBron James took note of his recent form, Davis mentioned his outlook moving forward.
The LA Lakers enjoyed one of their most competitive seasons of the last decade in 2019-20 with Anthony Davis as the focus player. With Davis leading the team on both ends of the floor, the Purple and Gold were firing on all cylinders.
Needless to say, the template of having Davis as the frontman on the team has resulted in success quite often. Unfortunately, the star big man hasn't had the best of luck with staying healthy and on the court.
Having missed huge portions of the past two seasons, the Lakers fell upon hard times, to say the least. Additionally, AD's lack of consistency also led to the big man being severely criticized for his inability to take over the reigns as a leader.
However, in the past few outings, Davis has looked like the most dominant version of himself. Taking over as the team's leader in LeBron James' absence, Davis has easily been the best player for the Lakers.
This resurgence in form is a promising sight for the Purple and Gold faithful. However, it is also something that Davis' teammates have taken note of.
After a rather reminiscent performance against the San Antonio Spurs, Davis mentioned a comment his teammate made about his recent hot-streak. He mentioned this while talking to ESPN's Dave McMenamin. He said:
"We haven't talked about it, but he [LeBron] did say that I'm playing like my old self, so I'm trying to get back into that rhythm."
Davis put on a show for the crowd at Crypto.com Arena. Notching 30 points and 18 rebounds with two assists and three steals, AD led the charge to help the Lakers improve to 5-10 for the season.
The latest string of games have also seen Davis play some of the finest basketball of his career. With 30+ points and 15+ rebounds in every one of them, it is safe to say that the superstar has played up to his potential to impact the game..
With LeBron James out of the rotation, Anthony Davis has finally looked like the leader the LA Lakers have played him up to be. As the team rolls into their upcoming road trip, the team will hope that their star remains in form and stays healthy.
Anthony Davis appears to be back in form
When healthy, Anthony Davis could be considered a top-10 player in the NBA. Given his offensive versatility paired with his defensive ability, AD is one of the best players in the game when he is firing on all cylinders.
His lack of consistency has come under fire on several occasions. However, Davis has certainly looked more confident in his recent set of outings.
He hasn't shyed away from attacking the basket. He has displayed a lot more comfort while moving into his jumpshots. Most importantly, he has been an absolute beast on the rebounding front.
The displayed aggression is what the Lakers have needed from AD in almost every game he has been available. With the star finally taking up the task, the Lakers have been on a roll.
Whether Davis will be able to sustain this streak for a greater portion of the season is a matter of speculation. However, he has definitely shown that he still has what it takes to lead a team to victory.
