Anthony Edwards explains why he has 0 dunks this season: "Everybody is in the paint, I can't just jump over everybody man, I ain't as tall as Giannis"
Anthony Edwards hasn't made a dunk this season. Everybody is wondering why he hasn't slammed the ball yet as he's known for some of the sickest dunks in the league. Apparently, Edwards isn't the type of player who will always go for a poster dunk. He recently explained that he needs a clear lane before taking off.
Edwards also pointed out that he's not as tall as Giannis Antetokounmpo. The 'Greek Freak' can throw the ball down anytime he wants given his height and the length of his arms. 'Ant Man' is only 6-foot-4.
He said:
“Everybody is in the paint. I’m only 6-4, 6-5, I can’t just jump over everybody, man. I ain’t as tall as Giannis. Everybody be asking me to dunk the ball like it’s all peaches and cream. I’ve got to get a good lane to dunk the ball.”
Anthony Edwards' statement is not surprising. After studying his highlight reel of dunks, it's clear that 'Ant Man' only goes for a slam when he has a clean look. He's not LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo or Zion Williamson who can bully their way to the rim.
Analyzing Anthony Edwards' season so far
Anthony Edwards is having a decent season so far. He is the Minnesota Timberwolves' leading scorer at the moment, averaging 23.1 points per game on 44.9% shooting from the field. His scoring average is accompanied by 6.1 rebounds, four assists and 1.1 steals per game.
Edwards is yet to be selected as an All-Star in the NBA. Given how his stats are on par with Karl Anthony-Towns, he might get his first All-Star selection this season.
The Minnesota Timberwolves recently lost to the Phoenix Suns 116-107. Despite the loss, Edwards played efficiently. He had 24 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Both him and Towns were the ones taking charge of the game. Unfortunately, their scoring efforts weren't enough to secure the dub. The rest of the Wolves clearly need to pick up the slack in their next game.
'Ant-Man' has had three 30+ points game this season. His top scoring game so far was when they went against the San Antonio Spurs on Oct. 26. Edwards had 34 points, nine assists, two steals, and shot 57% from the field. Most of his points came from 3-point attempts as he made seven of 12 from long range.
Despite his efforts to help carry the load for the Timberwolves, one of his teammates has an issue with him. Karl Anthony-Towns expressed disgust at Edwards' diet on Oct. 27.
Towns doesn't support his love and cravings for Popeye's chicken. KAT feels like he'll fail as a leader if he can't convince Edwards to change his lifestyle choices soon.
As much as what Towns is saying is true, it doesn't seem to affect Anthony Edwards in any way. He seems to be performing efficiently and it will be exciting to see how his game progresses this season.
