"Are you a hooper?" - Tyrese Haliburton reveals Travis Scott's angry reaction to him not using his shoes
Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton recently shared a story of how rapper Travis Scott got angry at him for not wearing his shoes. Scott has been collaborating with Nike, releasing shoes that have become really popular over the years.
In an appearance on "The Check Ball Show," Haliburton told the story of how Scott gave him shoes and got angry when he wasn't wearing them. They were at Michael Rubin's White Party earlier this month when it happened.
"Funny story, I'll tell you about Travis. So Travis was there, right? And I said, 'Yo, fam. I appreciate you for the kicks.' He's like, 'Of course, bro. Not a problem. I'm like, 'Yeah, they in the box still like they not coming out. He was like angry, he got mad after I said that. He was like, 'Are you a hooper or are you a hooper? And I was like, 'Uh, I think they're the same. Yeah, I'm a hooper.' He's like, 'You better take them out of the box.' I get it though. There are a lot of people like, 'Wear your shoes,'" Haliburton said.
According to Sneaker News, attendees of Michael Rubin's party received a pair of Travis Scott Air Jordan 1 Lows "White Party." Only 350 pairs of the shoes were made and came in a box with custom dust-bag invites. Each pair is also unique given that the guest's initials appear behind the tongue label.
The guest's full name also appears with the custom logos on the insole, which makes it one of the hard-to-find pairs for collectors. For those wondering, Tyrese Haliburton was one of several athletes who participated in the star-studded White Party held on July 4th in the Hamptons.
Tyrese Haliburton's quest for redemption takes a back seat in first game with Team USA at the Olympics
Tyrese Haliburton was one of two players from the Team USA squad who finished fourth at the 2023 FIBA World Cup to be named in this year's roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Haliburton told USA Basketball that he was frustrated with last year's failures and is looking for redemption.
"Last year, we didn't do what we wanted to do and that was frustrating. Anytime you get to represent USA Basketball, the expectation is to win and we weren't able to do that. … I think that kind of carried into this year where I had my most successful NBA season yet. Coming back this year with USA Basketball, I know we don't have any other expectations but to win," Haliburton said.
However, Haliburton's Olympic campaign started with DNP under head coach Steve Kerr. It will be interesting to see if he'll be in the rotation for Team USA's upcoming games against South Sudan and Puerto Rico.
