"Are you ok?" - Josh Hart's hilarious reply on Mikal Bridges 'come to Nets' resurfaces after blockbuster trade
Josh Hart's wise words to Mikal Bridges earlier this month have come true after a blockbuster deal between the New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets. The Knicks have acquired Bridges from the Nets in exchange for Bojan Bogdanovic and a bunch of picks.
In a post back in the second week of June, Bridges commented on his Villanova teammate's Instagram post. He asked Hart to come and join him in Brooklyn, which was a laughable request considering how much better the Knicks are at the moment.
Here's what Hart wrote as a reply:
"Are you ok? If they have you hostage, just blink and we'll save you."
According to SNY's Ian Bagley, Mikal Bridges requested to be traded to the New York Knicks. Bridges had two more years on his deal and told the Brooklyn Nets that he would sign with New York once his contract expired. He used it as leverage to avoid getting traded to a different team.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski gave a detailed look at the trade that will make the Knicks even better. The Nets will receive Bojan Bogdanovic, four first-round picks from the Knicks, an unprotected first-round pick from the Milwaukee Bucks, an additional unprotected pick swap and a second-round pick.
The Knicks will part ways with their 2025, 2027, 2029 and 2031 first-round picks. The unprotected first-round pick from the Bucks is in 2025, the unprotected pick swap is in 2028 and the second-round pick is for next year's draft.
That's a massive haul for the Nets that acquired Bridges from the Phoenix Suns last year in the Kevin Durant trade. As for the Knicks, they add an iron man and a very good two-way player to their roster. He also knows how to play with Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo since they all won an NCAA championship together at Villanova.
Mikal Bridges was drafted in 2018 along with 3 other Villanova players
Josh Hart is the elder statesman for the Villanova boys in New York. He entered the NBA a year early and was drafted 30th overall by the Utah Jazz. He began his career with the LA Lakers and has also played for the New Orleans Pelicans and Portland Trail Blazers before the Knicks acquired him at last year's trade deadline.
In the 2018 NBA Draft, four Villanova players were selected and made the league. Mikal Bridges was the 10th overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers, but was traded to the Phoenix Suns on draft day. Donte DiVincenzo was picked by the Milwaukee Bucks at No. 17 and won a championship with them in 2021.
Omari Spellman was the 30th overall selection by the Atlanta Hawks, but he lasted just two seasons in the NBA. Jalen Brunson was drafted No. 33 by the Dallas Mavericks. Brunson blossomed into a star in his first season in New York last year and made the jump to superstardom in this year's playoffs.
