"Better get a job as a clown" - NBA fans tickled by Warriors' talent Jonathan Kuminga's $224 million contract demand

NBA fans have drawn their swords against Golden State Warriors talent Jonathan Kuminga after Real GM reported that the forward is seeking a max contract extension, which would see him inking a deal worth over a projected $224 million over five years.

Many were stunned by the report, and one fan expressed his displeasure:

"Ni**a must be joking. He better get a job as a clown."

Other players from the 2021 NBA draft class, Cade Cunnigham, Evan Mobley, Franz Wagner and Scottie Barnes, have all received max rookie-scale extensions. Fans criticized the 21-year-old Kuminga for keeping the same demand:

"224m for a player who's a negative in the playoffs lmao," another fan added.
"He doesn’t even deserve 30m per year," a user said.
"Max extension? He didn't crack into a consistent role on the team till the half way point of last season. These NBA contracts are getting out of hand," another fan chimed in.

A few fans jested at the absurdity of the ask:

"I too am seeking a $224 million contract," a fan commented.

Kuminga averaged 16.1 points, 4.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists with 52.9% field-goal shooting last year. However, he wasn't the player the Warriors had hoped for, as he struggled to perform in big matches and clutch moments.

Is Jonathan Kuminga an overrated player?

Originally from Congo, Jonathan Kuminga made a name for himself in USA through sheer hard work and determination. He was a five-star recruit at the high school level and was highly sought after by many college programs. However, he decided to enter the G-League Ignite, and soon after, declared for the 2021 NBA draft, where he was picked up by the Warriors as the 7th overall pick.

Since then, he has come a long way in the Bay Area, displaying his potential, though he has struggled for game time under Steve Kerr's coaching. Dan Favale of Bleacher Report even ranked him at the top in his 'Most Overrated NBA Players' list.

However, this doesn't take away from the fact that Jonathan Kuminga has potential. He has played 211 games in his career and has averaged 11.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
