"Biggest revelation so far is how f***ing good Luka is" - JJ Redick explains how great Luka Doncic has been this season
Luka Doncic is having an amazing start to the season for the Dallas Mavericks. Doncic is one of the early candidates to win the MVP award. Former NBA player and current analyst JJ Redick discussed the factors that make Doncic great.
On a recent episode of "The Old Man and the Three" podcast, Redick raved about Doncic's hot start to the season. The 23-year-old scored 30 or more points in the Mavericks' first nine games, which is the second-longest streak in NBA history.
"The biggest revelation so far is how f***ing good Luka is," Redick said. "These numbers are insane. He's accounted for 42.0% of his team's total points whether he's on the floor or not, points and assists. That's not even including when he makes a pass to somebody who gets fouled and makes free throws."
JJ Redick explained that Luka Doncic is slowing down the game to read the opposing team's defense. Doncic also scores when he needs to, while making his teammates better. The Dallas Mavericks have a 8-5 record to start the season, which is currently the fifth-best in the Western Conference.
"They have the slowest pace in the league," Redick said. "Luka dissects the defense. He's averaging 50 points per 100 possessions. It's insane."
"When he's not scoring, he's drawing the second defender and then Dallas gets into this beautiful ball movement. Zip, zip, zip, open threes. Zip, zip, zip, back cut. I hate isolation basketball, but watching them play is actually beautiful."
Doncic is averaging 34.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 7.8 assists and 2.1 steals this season. He leads the league in scoring, while shooting 49.7% from the field. However, he's still struggling from beyond the arc, shooting just 29.1%.

Luka Doncic saves Mavericks against Clippers after blowing huge lead
The Dallas Mavericks cruised through the first half of their matchup against the LA Clippers on Tuesday. However, the Clippers fought back and erased the Mavericks' 25-point lead. The Clippers even got the lead late in the fourth quarter, but Luka Doncic made sure that Dallas won the game.
With the Mavericks up by one possession, Doncic hit a 3-point shot with half a minute left in the game. The Mavs managed to hold on for a 103-101 win. Doncic finished with 35 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
In the post-game interview, Doncic downplayed his clutch 3-point shot. The Slovenian superstar even called it a "lucky" shot.
"I was a bit lucky," Doncic said. "The ball found me somehow. I just shot it. It went in. I got a little lucky, but we'll take it."
The Mavericks have three more games this week, but all are in the comfort of the American Airlines Center. They will face the Houston Rockets, and the Denver Nuggets twice.
