"Bill Russell: Legend" documentary to release on Netflix on February 8th, 2023: All you need to know
Bill Russell was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. During his impressive career, Russell won 11 championship rings, turning the Boston Celtics into an incredibly successful franchise.
Russell passed away in July 2022, but his legacy will never be forgotten. To honor his life, Netflix will release a special documentary on Feb. 8, 2023, titled "Bill Russell: Legend."
Considering that Russell's life off the court was also very interesting, the documentary will show everything that the big man fought for. The Boston Celtics legend may be a decorated player, but he's also a civil rights activist whose life was bigger than basketball.
Bill Russell is getting his own Netflix documentary
During his 13-year NBA career, the 6-foot-10 established himself as one of the best centers of all time. He averaged 15.1 points, 22.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game, winning numerous accolades.
While most basketball fans know Russell for winning 11 rings - the most in NBA history - he also achieved a lot more. Besides his rings, Russell was a five-time MVP and a 12-time All-Star.
The life of the basketball legend ended in July 2022 at the age of 88. Netflix announced his documentary in February 2022, shortly after Russell's 88th birthday. Unfortunately, the former Celtics center passed away before the documentary was complete.

With "Untold: Malice at the Palace," the popular streaming service covered one of the most popular brawls in the league's history.
Earlier this year, Netflix released "The Redeem Team," a documentary that follows the 2008 US Olympic basketball team, while Tim Donaghy's scandal was covered in "Untold: Operation Flagrant Foul."
