Bill Simmons sounds off on Adam Schefter's description of retired insider Adrian Wojnarowski's hectic work life - "Was he an ER doctor during COVID?"
Adrian Wojnarowski is one of the NBA's most prominent and respected insiders and colleague Adam Schefter came out in support of his decision to step down from his position at ESPN this week. The life of an insider can be strenuous and "Woj," as he is commonly referred to, decided to leave the taxing and time-consuming gig after over 30 years in the business.
Shortly after the news broke, reporter Schefter shed some light on the life of an insider on ESPN:
"He wanted his life back. He didn't want to have to work on holidays. He didn't want to be away from more family gatherings.
"He didn't want to have to. ...take a shower with your phone up against the shower door so you can see a text that's coming in, or take your phone with you to the urinal and hold it in one hand while you take care of your business in the other. That's the life that we live."
Adam Schefter's statement painted a grim picture of a sports insider, leading Bill Simmons, the founder of The Ringer, to sound off on Schefter's latest tirade.
"Was he an ER doctor during COVID?," Simmons quipped.
Simmons was speaking on a recent episode of "The Bill Simmons Podcast" and roasted Schefter for his take.
Adrian Wojnarowski left a high-paying job with ESPN and revealed that he will return to his alma mater St. Bonaventure, where he will take on a role as the basketball General Manager. Woj announced his decision to retire over a post on X where he spoke about achieving his dream of becoming a sportswriter but also of using his remaining time more meaningfully.
Adam Schefter makes bold NBA prediction and wants shot at Adrian Wojnarowski's insider position if correct
With Adrian Wojnarowski officially retired from his position at ESPN, there is a void in the basketball world. Adam Schefter, who is known more for NFL and NCAA analysis, seems to be interested in throwing his hat in the ring for the coveted position.
Speaking on ESPN, Schefter boldly predicted that the Oklahoma City Thunder and New York Knicks would clash in the 2024/25 NBA championship with the Western Conference side going on to going on to win the title. What followed was an interesting prospect with Schefter hinting that he could be a good fit for the vacant NBA insider role.
"If they do go ahead and win it, I will officially be applying to take over Woj's job to become the new NBA insider," stated Schefter
It is unclear whether Schefter was joking about applying for Adrian Wojnarowski's but there are plenty of rumors about who ESPN will turn to to fill the role. There is speculation that Shams Charania or Chris Haynes could be in line for the job.
