Boston Celtics to award 6x NBA champion with 2024 championship ring in home opener ceremony

The Boston Celtics won their first NBA championship in 16 seasons in 2024, breaking their tie with longtime rivals the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in five quick games. Jaylen Brown was crowned the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player, averaging 20.8 points, 5.0 assists and 5.4 rebounds. Jayson Tatum was also a key contributor, posting 22.2 points, 7.2 assists and 7.8 rebounds per game.

On Oct. 22, the Celtics will celebrate their 18th championship before the tipoff in their home opener vs. the New York Knicks. At the ceremony, Celtics players will receive their NBA championship rings.

The Celtics will also honor NBA legend Bob Cousy with a 2024 championship ring.

Last season Bob Cousy said: "I'm 95 f*****g years old with one foot in the grave, and I can barely move. One of the last things I want to be able to see is for the Celtics to hang up banner No. 18."

The Celtics held up their end of the bargain, and Cousy will be honored with a Celtics championship ring from the organization.

Cousy won six NBA championships with the Boston Celtics in his 14-year career, making 13 NBA All-Star teams and 12 All-NBA teams. He was also a member of the NBA 75th Anniversary Team as one of the top 75 players in NBA history.

Boston Celtics will play the New York Knicks in 2024-25 home opener

The reigning NBA champions will defend their crown in their home opener vs. the New York Knicks in Boston's first game of the 2024-25 NBA season.

New York will present a big challenge for the defending champs, as the Knicks had one of the most active offseasons in the league.

With the addition of Mikal Bridges, the Knicks have established themselves as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference. Bridges helps the Knicks match up better with the Celtics.

New York was the surprise of the 2024 season, breaking through as contenders in the East, led by Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo. Bridges completes the core of the Villanova Wildcats' 2018 NCAA championship team for the Knicks.

New York's new big four will pose a threat to the Celtics on opening night in late October.
