Will Anthony Edwards be a Team USA starter at the Paris Olympics?

Anthony Edwards is set to play for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics, joining a star-studded lineup that includes LeBron James, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, Anthony Davis, Jayson Tatum, Joel Embiid, Tyrese Haliburton, Bam Adebayo, Jrue Holiday and Devin Booker.

In March, NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Edwards aims to start for Team USA in the Paris Olympics.

"I'm told Anthony Edwards fully wants to go and compete to start on this team," Charania said.

To secure a spot in the starting lineup, Edwards needs to demonstrate his two-way capabilities given the star-studded Team USA roster.

During this year’s playoffs, Edwards emerged as a star, leading the Timberwolves to a sweep of the Kevin Durant-led Phoenix Suns. Edwards and Durant had some intense moments during the series, and after the sweep, Edwards expressed his excitement about potentially talking trash to Durant during Team USA scrimmages.

“I got the utmost respect for KD. He comes in and competes every night. I’ve watched every one of his games since I’ve been 5. I love that guy," Edwards said.
"I’m excited to play with him this summer, talk a little trash and let him know I sent him home.”

In the 2023-24 season, Edwards averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 79 games, earning his second All-Star selection.

In the playoffs, he elevated his performance, averaging 27.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 6.5 assists. His Timberwolves, however, were defeated by the Dallas Mavericks in the Western Conference finals.
