Brandon Miller's lawyer reveals new details in murder row, denies Alabama player's knowledge of gun used: "He never saw the handgun nor handled it"
Brandon Miller's lawyer has revealed new information that could prove to be vital to the current murder case that the NBA prospect has been involved in. His teammate Darius Miles has been charged with murder and Miller's name got dragged into the investigation after the former sent a text regarding the gun used in the crime.
According to Miller's lawyer, the Alabama star did not have prior knowledge of the gun used in the murder.
"He never saw the handgun nor handled it," Jim Standridge wrote.
Miles was arrested and will be held without bond. Miller, on the other hand, hasn't been charged with anything.
Authorities haven't found anything against Brandon Miller
The only thing that authorities have to prove is the text message from Miles to Brandon Miller. As stated earlier, Standridge revealed that Miller had no knowledge of the gun that was used in the murder of 23-year-old Jamea Harris. He also had no knowledge or intent to use the gun when he transported it.
"Brandon has submitted to multiple interviews to assist law enforcement in further understanding the situation, he has volunteered to have his phone contents extracted as well as that of the contents of his automobile," Standridge stated. "He will continue to cooperate as any citizen should who has witnessed a serious incident."
The mother of the victim, however, has uncovered new developments to the story. According to her, Harris' car was intentially blocked by two vehicles during the murder. Among the vehicles that blocked her daughter's car belonged to Miller, who suffered bullet holes due to the shooting.
Standridge defended Harris' mother's claim that Miller had intentionally blocked the vehicle at the time of the event.
"Brandon did not block the jeep driven by Mr. Johnson [Harris' boyfriend]," Standridge wrote. "In fact, Brandon had already parked on Grace Street when the jeep pulled up behind him. The street was never blocked by Brandon’s vehicle."
There are no further developments as to how it'll turn out for the young prospect.
How good is Brandon Miller?
Brandon Miller is a freshman playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide. According to major mock draft websites, Miller is expected to be picked early in the lottery in June 2023. Many believe that he has a chance to be in the top three, just based on how he's performed for the team this season.
Standing at 6-foot-9, he's a reliable wingman who could do well in the NBA. He's played 27 games this season and has averaged 18.7 points, eight rebounds and 1.9 assists. Miller is an efficient shot maker, knocking down 45.9% from the field and 42.9% from the three-point area.
Given his physical attributes, he's got a chance to play both forward positions effectively. His rebounds could help whichever team drafts him to be an integral part of his game. Miller is also a legitimate threat from the outside, as he's one of the deadliest shooters in the upcoming draft class.
Defensively, there's still a chance for him to improve and become a reliable perimeter stopper.
Experts have compared him to stars like Danny Granger and Rudy Gay. Both had exceptional careers in the league as athletics and sharp-shooting swingmen. Miller could end up having a better career than the two, just based off his performance for Alabama this season.
If everything ends up in the right direction for Miller, there's a chance he'll still have a decent career in the NBA.
