Irving is one of the best guards in the NBA, yet he's very controversial. Due to this, he's missed a lot of time for the Brooklyn Nets and hasn't brought a lot to the table. Fortunately for him, he will get a fresh start in Dallas.

The former NBA champion was traded for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and three draft picks. While this trade will somewhat impact the long-term future of the Mavericks, there is no doubt that it's the right move for the 2022-23 season.

The Mavs need to have a strong playoff push to secure a playoff spot. Considering how good Irving is and how much playoff experience he has, he may be the missing piece that turns the Mavs into contenders.

Luka Doncic is having a fantastic season and is one of the top MVP candidates. Unfortunately for Dallas, the Mavericks are 0-7 without the Slovenian guard and simply cannot function without him.

It will be interesting to see how well Doncic and Irving play together since they are both ball-dominant players. However, there is no doubt that the Mavericks need another star who can step up in Doncic's absence.
