"Bro from Chicago. He real lame for this": Fans accuse Anthony Davis of Packers bandwagoning as he fanboys over Jordan Love

Chicago native Anthony Davis is a Green Bay Packers fan, a choice often criticized by NBA fans. Recently, he faced accusations of "bandwagoning" after he fanboyed over quarterback Jordan Love.

In a quote card shared by ESPN on Instagram, "AD" was quoted by writer and TV analyst Dave McMenamin as telling Love he was thinking of getting a cheese tattoo — a nod to Wisconsin, the Packers' home state — seemingly to emphasize his support for Green Bay.

Davis said:

"I'm thinking of getting a🧀 tattoo."

In Green Bay, there’s what fans are calling the "cheese curd gate" involving Jordan Love. During a game of “love it or leave it,” he chose to “leave it” when it came to cheese curds — a local specialty — which led to the crowd booing him.

Fans quickly reacted to what the LA Lakers superstar said, mainly criticizing him for supporting Green Bay instead of the Chicago Bears, the Packers' rivals and his hometown team.

"Bro from Chicago.. he real lame for this," a disappointed fan wrote.

"You from the city and rooting for the Packers. AD the opps," another user said.
"Better get a bear tattoo tf u thinking about buddy," another suggested.
"Dudes from Chicago born and raised yet bandwagons that packers," another added.

Some comments underscored that Anthony Davis' Packers support isn't winning him any favor in the eyes of the people of Chicago.

"Disgrace to Chicago," one fan said.
"He gon get hurt when they play the Bulls," one comment read.
"Don't come to the chi nomo," another wrote.
"This is the reason he doesn't get love in the Chi," one fan added.

The Packers are currently third in the NFC North in the ongoing NFL season at 6-3, ahead of the Bears at 4-4.

Meanwhile, Love came to LA to catch Anthony Davis and the Lakers play the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday. After the game, they talked and swapped jerseys.

Anthony Davis shares his story of becoming a Packers fan

Anthony Davis was not a huge football fan until he arrived in the NBA. From there, he took a liking to the Green Bay Packers, despite criticism from Chicago fans.

The LA Lakers superstar spoke about how his support for the Packers came about in an interview in 2020 that came out on Sports Illustrated, saying:

"I was never a football guy and then when I got to the NBA, guys were like, 'You've got to have a team. I knew some guys from the Packers and just became a fan. I get a lot of hate and stuff from it but I don't really care. It's football. It's not my fault that the [Chicago] Bears aren't playing well."

Anthony Davis continued:

"I hear it (criticism) a lot from my family. My dad pulls his hair out everyday trying to figure out how I'm a Packers fan."

As a Packers fan, Davis tries to catch some of the games of Green Bay live even with his busy schedule in the NBA, occasionally bringing teammates along.
