Carmelo Anthony drops bombshell prediction on LeBron James' trade future
As trade season kicks off in the NBA, LeBron James' name has been tossed around as a player who could be on the move. While debates continue to ensue about the LA Lakers dealing their star forward, one of his close friends gave his thoughts on the situation.
While on his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Carmelo Anthony was asked about the idea of LeBron being traded. He doesn't see it happening but knows the 20-time All-Star has the influence to make something happen if he wants it.
"LeBron makes the trades. So if he wanna get traded, he'll get traded," Anthony said. "I think that window closed shut. Like it was a point in time maybe last year."
"There was a thought like damn, this could be a possibility."
LeBron and Anthony are good friends on and off the court, both being apart of the famous 2003 draft class. The two stars even had the opportunity to be teammates in 2022 on the Lakers.
Despite discussions like this continuing to emerge, LeBron James has not officially requested a trade from the Lakers. It's also worth noting that the NBA's all-time leading scorer has a no-trade clause in his contract.
Former 6MOY doesn't see LeBron James getting traded from the LA Lakers
Carmelo Anthony is not the only former player who doesn't envision LeBron James getting traded before the February deadline. Lou Williams also chimed in with his thoughts on why a move of this magnitude is unlikely.
While on FanDuel TV's Run It Back show earlier this week, the former Sixth Man of the Year cited two reasons why a LeBron trade won't happen. The first being that he has never requested a trade or been moved mid-season ever in his career. Williams also doesn't think he'll leave after finally getting to be teammates with his son.
"In 21 years you haven't been traded, you haven't requested a trade," Williams said. "Now is not the time. Let's not forget we're two months removed from this whole Bronny James situation with him being able to play with his son and having that opportunity."
The Bronny aspect of this has been a common point brought up in these kinds of discussions. However, reports have indicated that if LeBron James were to be traded, his son would likely be involved in the deal as well.
Aside from being with his son, Williams brings up a strong point. Throughout his two-plus decades in the NBA, LeBron has never changed teams mid-season. He has always conducted his business in the offseason as a free agent.
With still about six weeks to go until the deadline, anything can happen regarding LeBron and his future in LA.
