Carmelo Anthony reminisces late sister in emotional note on birth anniversary
Carmelo Anthony achieved plenty of success over an illustrious 19-year career in the NBA, but the death of his sister Michelle shocked the player and his family in 2010. It seems Anthony is still struggling with the death of his older sister. On Sunday, the anniversary of Michelle's birthday, Anthony shared an emotional post on his Instagram remembering her.
Anthony posted two images on his Instagram story, with the first having the following text:
"She was poetry in a world that was still learning the alphabet."
Anthony added another line below that text in italics describing the pain he still feels:
"I thought they said it gets better with time SMH."
The following image was a concise and heartfelt message from Anthony to his sister:
"Miss you Sis, 8/18"
At the time of the incident, Anthony was with the Denver Nuggets and expressed how close he was to Michelle during his early years.
"My sister was somebody who actually raised me with my mother. We've been through thick and thin. Everybody who had a sister knows the type of relationship a brother and sister have," Anthony said, per ESPN.
Michelle died on Dec. 21, 2010, in Baltimore due to a pre-existing condition. She was a mother of four and was 38 at the time.

Nowadays, retired NBA star Carmelo Anthony spends his time working with his son and supporting him in his pursuit of his basketball dreams.
Kiyan Anthony, 17, has been a standout player at the high school level and has put up some big performances at summer tournaments. At the Nike Peach Jam Tournament in July, he scored 40 points in a single game. Kiyan is a complete player who can dribble, pass and shoot at a high level.
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard is one of the top-rated prospects out of New York and has generated plenty of interest from top universities around the nation. He currently has plenty of Division 1 offers but has listed Auburn, Syracuse, Florida State, Ohio State, USC and Rutgers as the six programs he is considering.
Carmelo Anthony is a regular feature on the sidelines at his son's tournaments. It will be interesting to see if Kiyan follows in his father's footsteps and commits to Syracuse University where his father won a national championship.
