Carmelo Anthony reveals hilarious locker room interaction with Stevie Wonder during All-Star game
Carmelo Anthony is the latest NBA player to tell a story about blind award-winning singer Stevie Wonder. Anthony joins fellow basketball legends Shaquille O'Neal and Darryl Dawkins, who believe the 74-year-old legendary artist may not be 100% blind.
On the latest episode of the 7PM In Brooklyn podcast with co-hosts Kid Mero and Kazeem Famuyide, as well as guest Rudy Gay, Anthony shared a story about the Part Time Lover singer. They were in Los Angeles for the All-Star Game in 2011 when Wonder came in and said:
"All-Star weekend LA, we're in the back locker room, and the hallway flooded," Anthony said. "They were like, 'Yo! Stevie Wonder wanna meet the players.' ... Goes to me and he says, 'I love watching you play.' ... We were crying before the game," Anthony said. [0:59 - 2:50]
Kid Mero and Kazeem Famuyide burst out laughing, while Rudy Gay doesn't believe Carmelo Anthony's story. The NBA legend swore that it actually happened and claimed multiple people can back his story up. He's open to showing texts from these people, who he believes will message him once the story goes viral.
In addition to Anthony, Shaquille O'Neal told a Stevie Wonder story in 2019 on Inside the NBA. It happened in an elevator, and Wonder recognized O'Neal before pushing a button, arriving on his floor and then leaving.
"This is a true story," O'Neal said. "We lived in the building on Wilshire (LA). ... I was already in the building, I'm coming through the lobby and the door opened. He comes in, says, 'What's up Shaq?' Presses the button. It’s a true story, presses the button, gets off on his floor by himself, goes to his room."
Darryl Dawkins, on the other hand, claimed in an interview with TMZ that Stevie Wonder has vision, but could not see. Wonder is the one who gave Dawkins the nickname "Chocolate Thunder."
Carmelo Anthony reacts to Drake's beef with DeMar DeRozan
Drake's comments on the Toronto Raptors potentially retiring DeMar DeRozan's jersey went viral earlier this month. The two seemingly had beef stemming from DeRozan's appearance in Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us music video.
Carmelo Anthony understood Drake's feelings, but thought that it should have been handled privately. Anthony also explained that the rapper can't fault DeRozan for what he did because the current Sacramento Kings star is from Compton.
"Drake did a lot when he said I'mma go up there and take it down," Anthony said, according to Hot97. "That part is a lot. Those are shots. You my man, we in the crib, we hanging, we building the 6 up. From that standpoint, that would f**k me up too."
Drake and Kendrick Lamar were involved in a high-profile beef for the majority of the year. Lamar seemed to have won it after the release of Not Like Us, which was one of the biggest hits of 2024.
