Carmelo Anthony reveals Michael Jordan offered him tailored pointers for efficient scoring
Carmelo Anthony is widely regarded as one of the greatest isolation scorers in NBA history. The 10-time All-Star is top-10 on the NBA all-time scoring list. Throughout his career, he went to his patented isolation game to get to his spots on the court.
On Friday's episode of Anthony's podcast, "7PM in Brooklyn," the Knicks legend discussed tips he received from arguably the greatest player in NBA history, Michael Jordan.
"(Michael Jordan) taught me the psychological aspect of how to score, how to break down scoring. He knew how to pick games apart. When I got with him, it was more individualized and catered to my game. He's like, 'Okay, here's how I see the game, your game, here's what I can give you to add to that.'"
Anthony was signed to Jordan's brand during his playing career and is one of the most prominent signature athletes the shoe brand has signed. He signed with Jordan after being selected with the No. 3 pick in the 2003 NBA Draft and released 13 signature shoes with Jordan.
In his 19-year career, Anthony averaged 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 2.7 assists, earning six All-NBA nods and a spot on the NBA 75th Anniversary team.
Kemba Walker shares Michael Jordan advice with Carmelo Anthony
On Friday, Kemba Walker shared his own experiences working with Michael Jordan on Carmelo Anthony's podcast. Jordan selected Walker with the No. 9 pick in the 2011 NBA Draft during his time as the owner of the Charlotte Hornets.
During his time in Charlotte, Walker worked closely with Jordan as the six-time champion worked to help a young Kemba develop. Walker discussed a conversation with Jordan that helped build his confidence as a rookie.
"I'm young, and I didn't want to step on anyone's toes, so I'm kind of deferring a little bit. (Michael Jordan) called me in his office, he looked me in my face and was like, 'I didn't bring you here to defer. I drafted you myself, I want you to be aggressive. I want you to play like how you played at UConn.'"
Walker mentioned how that interaction instilled confidence in him as a rookie. Walker was a four-time NBA All-Star in his 12-year career, averaging 19.3 points, 5.3 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. He currently serves as a player development coach for the Hornets, where he spent seven seasons.
