Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan Anthony makes bullish Sixers prediction, explains why Paul George tops his GOAT listÂ
Carmelo Anthony's son Kiyan is an exciting young NBA prospect. During an interview on the Sloane Knows podcast, the 17-year-old discussed the Philadelphia 76ers' championship chances this season and why Paul George is his favorite player.
When asked about the Sixers' title hopes, Kiyan expressed his confidence in the team. The 76ers finished seventh place in the Eastern Conference last season while Joel Embiid recovered from a meniscus injury.
"(7:46) They're going to win," Anthony said.
His 76ers comments came after he was asked why he ranked Paul George so high on his all-time players list. During a joint interview with his mother, La La, for Complex, he dubbed the nine-time NBA All-Star the "GOAT."
"(7:16) He's my favorite player just because he plays way smoother than everybody else. Like everybody else tries super hard to score or to defend, he just does it effortlessly. Even though he plays super hard it looks like he's not trying. ... He plays a lot of defense. He'll guard the best player, and then he'll just kill you on offense."
Kiyan Anthony is not the only athlete to share their Paul George fandom. Brandon Miller shares the same stance. PG's excellent two-way ability and how "smooth" he makes everything look on the court have garnered him a following from young players.
Carmelo Anthony's son described his favorite moment watching his father on the NBA court
In the same podcast interview, Kiyan was asked to share his favorite moment from his father's playing days.
"(17:12) The playoffs when he played against Kobe. Every game was a battle. You didn't know who was going to win. It could go either way so I feel like those are just the icon games."
Since 'Melo' played 19 NBA seasons, his career has no shortage of highlights. However, his playoff battles with Kobe Bryant earn his son's vote for most memorable.
Carmelo and Kobe's first postseason matchup occured in 2008 during the Western Conference quarterfinals. The Lakers dominated the series and finished it with a 4-0 sweep. Their second and final head-to-head playoff meeting came in 2009 during the Western Conference Finals.
The Lakers went on to win consecutive NBA titles after eliminating a strong Nuggets squad to close the decade. Anthony went on to make the league's 75th anniversary team.
