Carmelo Anthony sets the record straight on the infamous 'Honey Nut Cheerios' remarks on ex-wife La La Anthony from Kevin Garnett

Back in 2013, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett got into a fight mid-game over remarks that were made about LaLa Anthony. Over a decade after the altercation, the former NBA superstar reflected on what actually happened.

During a recent episode of his "7 PM in Brooklyn" podcast, Anthony had on his former New York Knicks teammate Iman Shumpert. Among the things they discussed was the encounter with KG.

Initially, it was reported that Garnett told Carmelo Anthony that his then-wife tasted like Honey Nut Cheerios. According to the two former Knicks, that isn't what was said that caused the fight.

"This s*** was never said," Shumpert said. "Why would they think dude would get that mad if he said your wife taste like Honey Nut Cheerios?"

They never revealed what was actually said, but Anthony opened up on pursuing Garnett after the game. First, he tried to catch him before he went to the locker room, then tried to talk to him before he got on to the bus to leave the arena.

Anthony finished up by saying that he and Garnett never did sit down and hash things out from that night. However, he doesn't hold any ill will towards the Hall of Fame power forward anymore.

At the time of the fight, Carmelo and LaLa were still married. However, the two have been divorced since the summer of 2021.

Kevin Garnett once shared his side of the story regarding Carmelo Anthony fight

Before Carmelo Anthony and Iman Shumpert reflected on the incident, Kevin Garnett shared his side of the story in a 2021 interview. Similar to what was recently said, she stated that the initial reporting wasn't accurate.

Not only did Garnett say the Honey Nut Cheerios comment was false, but he claimed that he never brought up LaLa Anthony at all.

“I’ve never said anything about anyone’s family," Garnett said. "I’ve never said anything to Melo about La La. I’m a Frosted Flakes man. I’m not a Honey Nut Cheerios guy. I never knew where that came from. Let me clear that up.”

With both sides saying what was said wasn't true, it's safe to say the reporting on the fight can be overlooked at this point. However, given how animated Carmelo Anthony was in the moment and retelling the story, something clearly happened. Seeing Anthony wouldn't repeat on his podcast, it likely won't ever be revealed.

Anthony and KG were two of the top NBA stars from the 2000s, and they battled it out on the court on numerous occasions. The two both began their careers in the Western Conference before eventually being traded to Eastern Conference teams.
