Chet Holmgren drops a hilarious one-liner while admiring Paige Bueckers’ game sneakers

OKC Thunder center Chet Holmgren made a playful comment on Paige Bueckers' sneakers during the UConn Huskies’ game against the Iowa State Cyclones, a game UConn won 101-68.

Bueckers sported Sabrina 2 sneakers along with the rest of her UConn teammates during the game. On Instagram, Bueckers posted a photo of herself shooting a jumper in front of Iowa State’s Sydney Harris, who was falling toward her.

Holmgren, who has time off from the NBA season while recovering from injury, reacted humorously to the post in the comments:

“Kicks so fye she had to get a closer look while u were shooting😂🔥.”

In the game against Iowa State, Bueckers scored 27 points, including five 3-pointers. The Huskies also had standout performances from Sarah Strong, who recorded 29 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and Ashlynn Shade, who had 27 points and four assists on 13 shots.

Next up for the Huskies are games against USC and Providence.

Chet Holmgren congratulates Paige Bueckers on GT Hustle 3

Chet Holmgren also congratulated Paige Bueckers for making history with Nike. Bueckers will be the first NIL athlete to release her own shoes for sale, with the GT Hustle 3 "Paige Bueckers" sneaker launching this month.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Holmgren shared a short message celebrating Bueckers' remarkable achievement with Nike.

"That bigtime P congrats," Holmgren tweeted.

The GT Hustle 3 showcases a vibrant color palette of blue, white and purple. Its design elements include the "860" area code for UConn and "612" for her hometown of Edina, Minnesota, prominently displayed on the tongue.

A personal touch is added with her father’s motivational phrase, “Be You, Be Great,” etched on the heel.

Retailing for $190, the sneakers are available on Nike’s website and at select retailers.

Bueckers is projected to be a top pick in the 2025 WNBA draft. She averages 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game on 58.3% shooting, including 47.2% from beyond the arc, in the 2024-25 college basketball season.
