"Cigar lungs could never": Michael Jordan gets subtly mocked by LeBron James' friend over latest milestone
LeBron James will cross a major career milestone, one of his greatest historic feats outside of the stat sheet — he will be the first men's basketball player to carry the flag for Team USA at an Olympic opening ceremony this summer.
James, a two-time Olympic gold medal winner, is looking to make it three golds at age 39. And now, the four-time NBA champion and all-time leader in points scored is set to become the first Team USA basketball player to receive the ultimate Olympic honor.
Media personality Cuffs the Legend, a known friend of LeBron, took the news as a perfect opportunity to clown the "GOAT debate" between James and Michael Jordan.
"Cigar lungs could never," he wrote on X with a goat emoji.
Jordan has been known to smoke cigars frequently throughout his career and life. He said in a 2005 interview with a cigar magazine that he used to smoke a cigar before every single home game after 1993.
Cuffs The Legend is a basketball trainer based in North Carolina who is reportedly friends with James and his inner circle, including agent Rich Paul and business associate Maverick Carter. He has 72.3k X followers, with LeBron James being the most noteworthy.
He dubs himself as a "ghostwriter for your favorite major sports network" and hosts the "Some Dude Show" podcast.
LeBron James, Team USA look to remain unbeaten in exhibition games
The American squad's final exhibition match ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympics is on Monday. They will face Germany, the team that captured the 2023 FIBA World Cup and beat Team USA 113-11 last year.
LeBron James was a hero for them in their last match against South Sudan, the newest country to join the basketball tournament at the Olympics. James finished with a team-high 23 points while shooting 10-14 from the field to go along with seven rebounds and two 3-pointers. His LA Lakers teammate, Anthony Davis, led the team in rebounds with 11.
The Americans held off a Carlik Jones triple-double for a 101-100 win in London. Now they'll look to contain Dennis Shroder and the Wagner brothers, Franz and Mo of the Orlando Magic. Franz Wagner scored 27 points in an easy win against Japan.
Team USA will play their first Olympic match on July 28 against three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and his Serbian squad. Serbia came in second place to Germany last year at the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
