Clippers coach is indecisive about Kawhi Leonard’s return for game against Pelicans as he is in midst of his rehab: “We don't know if he's playing or not tomorrow yet either”

Kawhi Leonard is still rehabbing from a knee injury that sidelined him for over a year. LA Clippers coach Tyronn Lue is unsure of his availability for their next game.

The Clippers will take on the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday after losing to the OKC Thunder in their previous game. A win would bring the Clippers to .500 after six games so far this season.

During a press conference, Lue was asked about the situation involving Leonard. The coach was asked if the two-time NBA champ had been training and whether he would be available on Sunday.

In response, Lue said:

"I don't know. Just continuing to do his rehab. We don't know if he's playing or not tomorrow yet either but I don't think so today."
“Kawhi practicing today?”

The Clippers have not had a great start to the season, but there is still enough time to turn things around. Although finishing higher up the table would be preferred, the Clippers are trying to stay as healthy as possible for when it matters most.

Of the five games the Clippers have played so far, Kawhi Leonard has featured in only two. On both occasions, he came off the bench, averaging 21 minutes.

Rehabbing such an injury takes some time, which is why the Clippers staff are cautious. They are determined to incorporate him slowly to ensure he does not relapse in his rehab.

Leonard played in the season-opener against the LA Lakers and in the 112-95 loss against the Phoenix Suns. The All-Star forward was sidelined against the Sacramento Kings and for their past two outings against the OKC Thunder.

How have the Clippers fared without Leonard?

Although Kawhi Leonard was not very impactful, the Clippers have a 1-1 record in the two games he featured in.

Without Leonard, the Clippers have a 1-2 record. Perhaps the most surprising was their consecutive losses against the Thunder.

Nonetheless, there are some good things to take away from the Clippers' performances so far. Their offseason acquisitions and role players are stepping up.

John Wall has been immaculate leading the second unit. Despite sitting out the entirety of last season, he has not lost the spring in his step. Although he has been critical of himself for not creating more opportunities, he has had a decent spell on his return to action.

Marcus Morris has also been a high-level scorer so far this season. He is averaging 15 points and is shooting 44.4% from beyond the arc.

The Clippers might have to endure more early struggles before it all comes together. They are currently ranked 11th in the Western Conference standings.

Although they have not played like it, the Clippers are still championship contenders. At full strength, they have one of the most intriguing rosters on paper.
