D'Angelo Russell drops cryptic 1-word reaction after erupting with spectacular game amid trade rumors
LA Lakers guard D'Angelo Russell starred as the Lakers won 103-99 against the Sacramento Kings on Saturday. Following the game, he tweeted a cryptic one-word message on X, coming on the heels of rumors linking him to a potential departure from the Purple and Gold.
"EVOL."
Russell's cryptic post has fans speculating about its meaning. Some claim he could be hinting at his growth and evolution as a player or responding to the noise about the constant trade rumors circling.
With the trade season open, D'Lo has been linked with several teams potentially interested in his services. One trade scenario had the LA Lakers sending him to the Utah Jazz in exchange for Collin Sexton and Walker Kessler.
Furthermore, his current contract, which is set to expire at the end of the 2024-25 season, makes him an attractive asset. Teams interested in him can acquire him without committing to a long-term deal and it's been reported that the Lakers are interested in upgrading their frontcourt to give LeBron James a shot at one possible last title.
Despite the rumors, D'Angelo Russell delivered a strong performance against the Kings with 20 points, four rebounds and five assists. Although his career averages have dropped this season, he is averaging 12.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game and has to contend for a place on the bench.
What's next for D'Angelo Russell and the LA Lakers?
D'Angelo Russell and the LA Lakers have recovered from the 97-87 loss against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Dec. 13 to win three consecutive games. The three wins have come against tough opposition, the Memphis Grizzlies (2nd seed) and the Sacramento Kings (12th seed).
The latest win has eased the pressure off coach JJ Redick and has also seen the return of LeBron James' shooting form. James ended Saturday's game against the Kings with 32 points, seven rebounds, six assists and one 3-point shot made.
The Lakers will next play a home game against the Detroit Pistons (12-17) on Monday with the tip-off scheduled for 10:30 pm EST. Their second meeting this season, with the first going in favor of the Pistons, 115-103 despite being the underdogs.
