Dallas Mavericks fan brought “Luka>Steph” sign to game against the Warriors and fans went to battle: “He’s wrong and cringe,” “Where’s the lie”
The Dallas Mavericks picked up a crucial 116-113 win over the Golden State Warriors on Tuesday. The game marked a battle between two of the top guards in the league in superstars Luka Doncic and Steph Curry.
Doncic not only got the win, but he also outplayed Curry by putting up a 41-point triple-double, while Curry finished with 32 points. The highly anticipated matchup quickly led to much fan debate about who is better between Curry and Doncic. The debate only escalated after a Mavericks fan’s sign that said: “Luka>Steph” went viral on NBA Twitter.
“This fan at the Mavs-Warriors game 😅,” the original tweet from Bleacher Report was captioned.
“He said what he said 👀,” another tweet from NBA on ESPN added.
Overall, the reactions from fans were pretty divided, with many getting very heated. On that note, here are some of the top fan reactions to the viral image.
Golden State Warriors fan arguments in favor of Steph Curry
Many Golden State Warriors fans seemed to straight-up disagree with the sign without providing any reasoning.
“he’s wrong and cringe,” one fan said.
“Nobody else on planet earth, maybe even the universe thinks that,” another fan said.
However, many fans also referenced Golden State’s 4-1 win over Dallas in last season’s Western Conference finals as their reason for picking Curry.
“Mavs fans really forgot 😭😭,” one fan said while sharing a screenshot of last year’s playoff result.
“Steph beat luka last year. Also if this would’ve been a home game for the warriors they would’ve won. Something mavs fans don’t like to admit is there team sucks on the too,” another fan said.
Others referenced the fact that Curry has four championships compared to Doncic’s zero.
“Since when luka won 4 championships?” one fan said.
“Then bring your team to the finals and win championship 🤭,” another added.
Even some Doncic fans disagreed with the sign.
“I love Luka but this is just embarrassing,” one fan said.
Another fan even brought a YouTube poll into the debate. In the poll, 72% of voters picked Curry over Doncic as the better player.
“Not even close. 😌 400k > 1 random Mavs fan LMAO,” the fan said.
In the end, some just took shots at Doncic’s play style.
“Luka gotta be the most boring super star to watch smh it’s only freethrows and flopping…the passes are nice ngl but other than that he’s the kind of player you just get impressed by the boxscore but the play style is so boring,” one fan said.
“Curry literraly better this season, better record and more efficient, not a ball hog, and moves around off the ball. Something fluka can't even do,” another added.
Dallas Mavericks fan arguments in favor of Luka Doncic
Many Dallas Mavericks fans still argued in favor of Luka Doncic as the better player though.
“Where is the Lie?” one fan said in reaction to the sign.
Another fan said that he didn’t even know there was an argument for Curry over Doncic as the better all-around player.
“Is this an argument? I don’t know anyone who says steph is better. Maybe as a pure shooter but not all around player at all,” the fan said.
One fan pointed out that Curry doesn’t even have a better record than Doncic anymore. Following the Mavericks' win, they improved to 10-10 and ninth in the Western Conference while the Warriors fell to 11-11 and 10th in the West. He also added that Doncic has a worse supporting cast than Curry.
“His record ain't better 🤣, Luka has better numbers all around & with less help! Stephanie is a glorified playoff choke artist,” the fan rebutted.
Finally, another fan pointed out that Luka Doncic is 11 years younger than Steph Curry at just 23 years old. So it doesn’t make sense to use championships as the argument against Doncic.
“He don’t need a ring to prove how good he is! He’s how old? And doing it big at what age now? He’s the #1 pick for MVP,” the fan said.
Following the game, Luka Doncic remains the league’s top scorer (33.5PPG), followed by Steph Curry in second (31.4PPG).
