“Dallas Mavericks no longer control their destiny” – Chris Broussard makes bold claim on playoff chances for Mavericks

The tailend of the 2022-23 NBA season is fast approaching and the Dallas Mavericks haven't figured out how to make things work since trading for Kyrie Irving.

Famed NBA analyst Chris Broussard strongly believes that the Mavs will miss the Play-In Tournament even if they win their last five games of the season. He shared on First Things First that the Mavs don't have any control to their season anymore.

He said:

"The Dallas Mavericks no longer control their destiny. That's the thing, it could click. Maybe at shootaround tomorrow, with Kyrie and Luka and all the role players, Dwight Powell and Tim Hardaway Jr. It just clicks. And all of a sudden they're tuned in to Jason Kidd again and they get it, and they go 5-0 the rest of the way. And guess what, they could still miss the playoffs."

The next five games for the Mavericks aren't going to be easy. They'll have to face three teams that are all fighting for a playoff spot. Additionally, one of their matches in their last five games is against the Sacramento Kings, who are strong enough to knock them out.

Broussard also detailed that the only guaranteed win for the Mavs is their game against the San Antonio Spurs, who aren't really a great team this season and talent-wise, the Mavs are a better squad.

Still, it would be a shame to see a team that made the Western Conference finals the previous season, out of the playoffs. The Mavericks haven't been the same team since they traded for Irving and have fallen deep into the standings.

After the Dallas Mavericks lost to the Philadelphia 76ers, Luka Doncic was interviewed after the game.

In his post-game presser, the Slovenian star shared his frustrations about where the team is headed and how the atmosphere in the locker room has changed since they started to struggle.

When asked about how things in the locker room are, Luka said:

"I think what stays in the locker room, it's in the locker room. It's not good, obviously."

It is evident that the franchise star isn't happy with where the team has been trending towards. He later shared his honest thoughts on how things have been for their team. He added:

"Honestly, I don't know. It's just frustrating, you know? We were in a playoff spot, but now we're trying to get in the Play-In. So, it's obviously frustrating."
