Dallas Mavericks vs Golden State Warriors Game Player Stats and Box Scores for April 2, 2024
The Dallas Mavericks rolled to the Bay Area looking to maintain their dominance over the Golden State Warriors. Dallas, which is 2-0 in the season series, will be hoping to grab another win for playoff ranking. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving were cleared to play so the Mavericks liked their chances of a road win.
The "Dubs" opened without Jonathan Kuminga but were buoyed by balanced scoring across the roster. Andrew Wiggins' seven points and Chris Paul's contributions off the bench allowed the home team to secure a 28-27 first-quarter advantage.
For nearly the entire second quarter, the Dallas Mavericks played like the rim had a lid covering it. They couldn't get their shots to fall, even some of the wide-open ones. But the Mavericks trudged on and finished the quarter strong behind Doncic and Irving.
Steph Curry and Moses Moody pushed the Golden State Warriors to a 13-point lead but the Dubs just couldn't hold on. The game went to break tied at 49 heading into the second half.
Without Jonathan Kuminga, the Golden State Warriors bench, courtesy of Chris Paul and Moses Moody, continued to boost the Dubs. Brandin Podziemski is quietly having a stellar night off the bench with his rebounding, playmaking and defense. After a tied first half, the Warriors built an 80-74 advantage heading into the final frame.
The Warriors tried to pull away more starting the first minutes of the fourth quarter but the Mavericks stubbornly kept up. Dallas missed four straight under the three-minute mark when the score was tied at 92 all. Golden State responded by making crucial plays to eventually lead 98-92.
Draymond Green's block on Daniel Gafford potential dunk and his layup on the other end made it 100-92 before Kyrie Irving's triple cut the lead. Andrew Wiggins' floater off the left side again pushed the lead to 102-95 before Jason Kidd called for a timeout.
Just as it looked like the game was over, Dallas rattled off five straight points to make it 102-100. Klay Thompson's two free throws gave the Dubs a much-needed four-point cushion before Kidd called his last ceasefire.
Kyrie Irving's desperation three-point attempt hit the side of the board with Draymond Green draped all over him. The Bay Area team broke Dallas' seven-game winning run with a hard-fought 104-100 squeaker.
