Dallas Mavericks vs OKC Thunder Game Summary
The Dallas Mavericks opened with more fluidity and chemistry and raced to an early 13-2 lead. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander refused to let their opponents continue their roll and led the OKC Thunder's fight back. Dallas took a 36-32 lead after the first 12 minutes ended.
Oklahoma's defense, No. 1 in the playoffs, wasn't in its best form yet but somehow contained Dallas' humming offense. The second period was a back-and-forth slugfest on both ends but the Mavericks eventually settled with a 68-62 edge before halftime.
The Thunder made an early run to open the third quarter and tied the game 70-70 in less than two minutes. From there, it became a defensive battle before the Dallas Mavericks started pulling away starting the four-minute mark. The visitors had a 90-79 lead after Tim Hardaway Jr.'s 25-footer.
A dunk by Derrick Jones Jr. with 1:12 to go made it 99-85 before the OKC Thunder responded. The Mavs carried a 99-89 advantage as both teams took a few minutes to catch their breathe before the start of the final frame.
The defensive battle became the theme again as the Mavericks hunkered down to fend off the Thunder. Neither team could do much offensively which was what the visitors wanted to happen.
Chet Holmgren's tip made it 117-108 with 2:12 remaining in the game. Dallas refused to cave under pressure and held off Oklahoma to emerge with a 119-110 win.
Luka Doncic, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Jalen Williams' 3-pointers tonight
After going 1-for-8 in Game 1, Luka Doncic already had a nice bounce-back game from deep. "Luka Legend" went 4-for-6 to lead the Mavericks' hot shooting from that range.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander took just one shot from that distance and missed it. Jalen Willams was more efficient, making all but one of his three tries from behind the arc.
The Slovenian maestro shot only 1-for-2 in the second half to finish with a 5-for-8 clip from deep.
"SGA" was just as reluctant and ended 1-for-3 while Williams half of his four attempts from the same distance.
