Damian Lillard slams IG account for Bronny James-Marcus Jordan freshman stat comparison
Damian Lillard isn't having it when it comes to comparing the stats of second-generation hoopers Bronny James and Marcus Jordan. Bronny James still has yet to decide whether he will in fact declare for the NBA draft, or return to USC for a second year in the NCAA. With his freshman year now behind him, one basketball page on Instagram compared his stats to Marcus Jordan's.
While Marcus Jordan averaged more points, rebounds, and assists per game, many weren't interested in entertaining the topic. Damian Lillard took to his Instagram story to share his thoughts, joining the side in shutting down the comparison.
With the pair playing very different styles of basketball, and in two very different eras of basketball, stats don't tell the entire story. Damian Lillard took to his Instagram story this week, slamming the account posting the comparison, making it clear that the topic as a whole shouldn't be a talking point.

With both players impressing fans and analysts in their own unique ways, it's Bronny James who is currently in a position to pursue an NBA career. The big question, of course, is whether or not he decides to declare for the draft this offseason, or whether he looks to take his game to the next level beforehand.
Looking at Bronny James’ big draft decision amid Damian Lillard’s Instagram post
Before Bronny James’ USC career even began, there was talk of him being a one-and-done player, and declaring for the draft after his freshman year. Various draft boards and mock drafts had him placed somewhere in the later half of the first round, until his play improved his standing.
Thanks to his potential to be a ‘3&D’ standout, with capable playmaking abilities, Bronny James’ draft stock rose. Then, back in February, ESPN removed Bronny from their 2024 mock draft, leading many to wonder whether the decision had already been made.
The move was a surprising one given that his stock had momentum behind it, however, it would also give him one more year to refine his game. While his stats may not jump off the page compared to Marcus Jordan, Damian Lillard’s point that the two shouldn’t be compared has seemingly received praise from the NBA community.
Although Bronny James’ stats don’t look as impressive as Marcus Jordan’s, Marcus Jordan’s collegiate career has come and gone. Bronny James, however, is in a position to either declare for the draft as a potential first-round pick, or return to college to elevate his stock even further.
It’s likely because of that reason, that many, including Damian Lillard, think that comapring the numbers of the two is a waste of time. With that in mind, the NBA community has been left with one remaining question:
Will Bronny James return to USC for one more year, or declare for the NBA draft?
