Dejounte Murray drops first reaction after being traded to New Orleans Pelicans: "NOLA #504"

The New Orleans Pelicans sent shock waves around the whole NBA community when they acquired Dejounte Murray from the Atlanta Hawks. The former Hawks star shared his first response on social media after the news about the trade was released.

Murray took to Twitter to express his thoughts on the trade and his new home in New Orleans.

"NOLA. #504," Murray tweeted.

He appreciated the trade and welcomed the new path he is going to walk with his new teammates. The Pelicans, however, did not get the All-Star guard for cheap.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Pelicans had to give up Larry Nance Jr., guard Dyson Daniels, a 2025 first-round pick that they had acquired through the Lakers, and a less favorable 2027 first-round draft pick between them and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Grabbing Dejounte Murray right now was a great decision on the Pelicans' front office as he arguably had the best season of his career at the Hawks. Murray averaged 22.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 6.4 assists in the 2023-24 season. He made a total of 201 three-pointers, shooting 36.3 percent from downtown.

Murray was an integral part of the Hawks' tactics for the last two years, where he struggled to be impactful alongside Trae Young. This trade gives him a new chance to redeem himself and get himself back up to the top of the league.

Fans react to Dejounte Murray's post after being traded to the New Orleans Pelicans

The Pelicans fans were extremely happy to hear the news of Murray joining their side. They flooded the comments section of the tweet that the former Hawks player made. One fan welcomed him to the Pelicans with a warm comment.

"WELCOME TO THE 504. Hope you enjoy it . Let’s go get a ring or two for the city."

Other fans joined in the fray and expressed their excitement to have Dejounte Murray on their team.

"Welcome home dj," another fan said.
"Championship season with you at the point. Easy ring," one fan said.
"You and zion gonna go crazy," another fan added.

While most of the fans congratulated and welcomed Dejounte Murray to the city, some fans were heartbroken as he did not get traded to the team they wanted.

"You shoulda been a Laker bruh. I’m heartbroken," one fan said.
"You should’ve been a wolve bro," another fan added.

The Pelicans were a solid team that lacked a clutch player who could bail them out of a close situation and with them signing Murray, they have filled that empty home on their roster. Murray will go into training with the rest of the Pelicans squad later in the month.
