Dejounte Murray reacts after undergoing "successful" surgery for left hand fracture, set to be sidelined for extended period
The New Orleans Pelicans faced a major setback in their 2024-25 season opener when star point guard Dejounte Murray sustained a left-hand fracture. The injury occurred during their 123-111 victory over the Chicago Bulls at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, on Wednesday.
On Friday, Murray announced that he had undergone surgery for the injury, promising Pelicans fans that he would return hungrier than ever.
"THANK GOD Successful Surgery!!! NOLA I Will Be Back Motivated And Hungry More Than EVER!!" Murray wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Murray’s latest injury is expected to sideline him for at least four to six weeks. The Pelicans acquired Murray in the offseason, hoping the young star would lead their offense in a competitive Western Conference.
In his official debut for New Orleans, the former Atlanta Hawks guard showcased his skills, posting 14 points, 8 rebounds, 10 assists and one steal on 4-of-15 shooting. Although he missed all his 3-point attempts, he converted 6 of 7 free throws.
