DeMarcus Cousins predicts Jayson Tatum & Jaylen Brown to kick off NBA's next 'dynasty': "These guys haven't hit their prime yet"
Former NBA star DeMarcus Cousins believes the Boston Celtics star duo Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown could start a dynasty. The Celtics wrapped the NBA Finals by beating the Dallas Mavericks in five games. After winning, a few have shared their thoughts on what this title win could start for Boston.
The Celtics defeated the Mavs in Game 5 last night, 106-88, and dominated the game on both ends. Brown was named the Finals MVP as he put up 20.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.0 assists.
After winning the title, there are questions as to what's next for the Celtics. Given that most players on the roster aren't on expiring deals, the team will likely return next season and try to win another title. Cousins shared that this win could also be the start of the team becoming a dynasty in the coming years.
"You have to credit these guys for the success they've had early on in their career," Cousins said on Bully Ball. "And at such a young age, that's unheard of in any league. It's hard to win, but it's also hard to win young and in that learning curve process. ... I think this could be the mark of a dynasty run.
"25, 26, they're just scratching the surface. These guys haven't even hit their prime yet. Your prime doesn't happen until like 28 to 32-33."
Cousins also mentioned that he thinks the Celtics could win two to three more titles with the 'Jays' and the rest of the supporting cast. The former Sacramento Kings star boldly predicts more titles for Boston now that the star duo knows what it takes to win a title.
Jayson Tatum gets honest after Brown won the Finals MVP award
The Celtics are now champions, but Jayson Tatum didn't win Finals MVP. Instead, the award belonged to Brown after he put up a stellar performance in five games. The award recipient gave credit to Tatum after receiving it and dedicated it to his co-star.
After the trophies were handed, Tatum was asked about his thoughts on Brown winning the title.
"First of all, congrats to him. Well deserved, extremely happy for him, this was a hell of an accomplishment. The main goal for us was to win a championship. We didn't care who got Finals MVP," Tatum said.
Tatum said that he knew he needed Brown to win the title. The five-time All-Star was appreciative that he saw his co-star win the award. For the Celtics star, what's important is that they've finally won the NBA championship.
