Derek Fisher summarizes LeBron James' mental strength in year 20
Former LA Lakers guard Derek Fisher had a lot of praise for LeBron James and the team following their win against the Houston Rockets on Monday. While highlighting James' performance, Fisher also made a note of how impressive his mental strength has been.
The LA Lakers managed to record a much-needed win against the Rockets on Monday night. Considering that the team headed into the game with immense negative momentum, the Lakers did a fairly solid job of holding on to their lead down the stretch.
Given the state of the team and their roster issues, they have had to fend off some difficult situations. In this regard, every win counts.
There were two huge takeaways from Monday night's game. One was a franchise-low in turnovers for the game, with the Lakers finishing with only two. The other was LeBron James' season-high 48-point night to seal the game against Houston.
Former Lakers player Derek Fisher joined Spectrum SportsNets' Allie Clifton to discuss the game and James' impressive performance. When talking about LeBron's impressive scoring performance, Fisher said:
"Year 20, age 38, you should not have to worry about getting up out of the bed in the morning, driving to shootaround and driving back and then driving to Crypto. That probably factors into it maybe a little for LeBron.
"But the bigger question is just, it speaks to his mental approach to the game. Your body is always going to tell you certain things, right? Fatigue, I'm sore, I'm hurting. But your mind is really what's in control.
"LeBron has really mastered the ability to stay focused and stay in the moment, be present and bring his best performance when the Lakers need it the most."
LeBron James' 48-point performance was crucial in securing a win for LA. Considering that it came on the second night of a back-to-back, it only made the showing even more impressive.
Although the Purple and Gold recorded a win, they will still have some concerns moving forward. With a game against the Sacramento Kings coming up, the Lakers will need to have their wits about them if they wish to build upon the momentum from Monday's win.
LeBron James continues to dominate in Year 20
LA Lakers superstar LeBron James continues to surprise fans with the quality of his performances in his 20th season in the league. At the age of 38, LeBron still finds himself mentioned alongside some of the best in the league.
The situation itself is a bit unfortunate. At 38 years old, LeBron shouldn't be asked to carry a franchise. However, with Anthony Davis out due to injury, LeBron has been forced to be the team's sole superstar.
In light of this, he still delivers. While notching back-to-back 35+ point showings, LeBron has displayed a familiar kind of dominance this season, especially during the Lakers' five-game winning streak, where he managed to sustain his scoring supremacy in astounding fashion.
LeBron James is recording unreal numbers in year 20, with an average of 29.7 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 7.0 assists per game. On track to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's scoring record this season, he is merely speeding up the process with his high-scoring outings.
