Derrick Rose's wife Alaina Rose shares 2011 NBA MVP's cryptic Instagram video hours before announcing his retirement

Derrick Rose's retirement came as a shock to many NBA fans after Shams Charania broke the news. However, a small but important detail that the former Chicago Bulls star's wife had posted on her Instagram account was missed by many.

Derrick's wife, Alaina Rose, had foreshadowed the retirement of her husband on her Instagram story. The basketball superstar's wife had shared a reel featuring her husband on her story with a rose emoji in the caption.

The video begins with the 2011 MVP resting on his couch before transitioning to him looking at a rose in his hand. The video then shows Rose writing in a diary and heading upstairs, leading to a montage that displays various items in the upstairs room.

Among the items was the signature shoe of the former NBA star, a red colorway of the D-Rose Son of Chi 2 placed on the shelf. There was also a visual of a photo frame featuring a picture of Rose with his teammates from his early years in the league.

After the short montage, the video cuts to Derrick Rose sitting on a couch and staring at a ready chessboard. The video ends when the former NBA star lifting his head up and staring right into the camera.

When Alaina shared the reel, no one had thought that the 2011 NBA MVP was about to hang up his shoes and call it a day on his glorious NBA career. However, days later after the Memphis Grizzles waived him, the sad news broke out breaking the hearts of millions of D-Rose fans around the world.

After the news of his retirement went public, the former Chicago Bulls star made a post featuring a picture of him reading a newspaper. The front of the newspaper contained his parting message to professional basketball and his fans which he included as the third picture on his post.

The fans rushed to the comments section to express their feelings about the announcement. One fan jokingly accused Derrick Rose of hurting his feelings early in the morning.

"I’m calling off work today, I can’t handle this," another fan said.

Derrick Rose had an illustrious career where he averaged 17.4 points and 5.2 assists in 723 matchups. He is the youngest NBA player to receive an MVP award and also has been named three times as an NBA All-Star.
