Derrick White shows off his expensive wine taste as he enjoys a $100 bottle of red from Silver Oak

Since Derrick White arrived in Boston, his career has taken a serious uphill trajectory. White has etched his name in golden letters among those players who have won both an NBA title and an Olympic gold medal in the same year. Now, it seems the Boston Celtics star is using this offseason to refine his palate.

On Saturday, White posted a picture of red wine from Silver Oak on his social media, showcasing his taste in wine. The $100 wine was harvested and vinified from Alexander Valley and bottled in 2019.

This is one of the rare occasions White has made a post of this nature. Genrally, he doesn't share much about his day-to-day life on social media.

Derrick White was a low-key player on Team USA. He was one of the three Celtics players on the roster, alongside Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday. White appeared in all of Team USA's games, averaging 3.8 points,1.8 assists,1.4 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 1.4 steals per game over six games.

Grant Hill says he had no doubt that Derrick White would be happy to play for Team USA at the Olympics

Derrick White's selection as Kawhi Leonard's replacement wasn't a very popular move. However, Grant Hill always knew that if a replacement was needed, White would be the top choice.

The USA Today reported that the managing director of Team USA said that he had confidence in White even before meeting him.

“I'll just say when we asked, he had to ask,” Hill said (per USA Today). "It wasn't a definite yes. As soon as he was asked, yes, I think he wanted to do it. I don't want to speak for him, but I think he had to make plans and coordinate things before he could get back to us.”

While Team USA went forward with White, there were discussions about leaving the reigning NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown out of consideration for the spot.

However, Hill mentioned that one of the reasons that he wanted White over Brown was because he wanted players who could fit together rather than players who were the best in the league.

To Derrick White's credit, he has established himself as one of the best defenders in the league today. In the past two consecutive seasons, White has made the selection for the NBA All-Defensive Second Team.

As great as Kawhi Leonard is on offense, he is also exception on the defensive end of the floor. Moreover, the USA team already had great scorers on the roster, and adding White instead of Brown wasn't a bad move.
