"Dirtiest player in NBA history" - Skip Bayless drops major accusation against 4x NBA champion
Veteran NBA analyst Skip Bayless maligned Golden State Warriors star forward Draymond Green following his latest questionable foul. Bayless proclaimed the four-time NBA champion the league's "dirtiest player" ever, highlighting his history of taking "cheap shots" at his opponents.
Green's latest incident occurred during the third quarter of Golden State's 123-118 Nov. 15 home win over the Memphis Grizzlies. He stumbled on a drive to the basket and fell, resulting in Grizzlies rookie Zach Edey corralling the loose ball. However, as Edey threw an outlet pass, Green used his left elbow to pin down the 7-foot-4 center's right ankle.
The collision sent the rookie tumbling to the floor, and officials called a transition take foul. However, despite Green's extensive history of technical fouls and suspensions, the play wasn't reviewed and upgraded to a Flagrant 1 foul until the next day.
The controversial play sparked a back-and-forth between Green and Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins, who said postgame that the veteran broke the NBA's "code." Green later called Jenkins "emotional" and questioned the Grizzlies' toughness on his podcast.
A week and a half after the incident, Bayless appears to be siding with Jenkins. On Monday's episode of "The Skip Bayless Show," Bayless called out Green for continually committing contentious fouls. According to the longtime analyst, the four-time All-Star stands alone at the top of his all-time "dirtiest player" rankings.
"Draymond Green has proven again last week he's the dirtiest player in NBA history," Bayless said (Timestamp: 48:07). "No exaggeration. Dirtiest player in NBA history.
"This time he tripped Memphis rookie Zach Edey as Edey tried to run up the floor. Draymond was down on the floor, and he clamped his arm and elbow over Edey's ankle and just tripped him. 7-foot-4 Edey tripped and fell."
Bayless added that Green calling Jenkins "emotional" was laughable, as no player has ever been more emotionally volatile than the Warriors star.
"Draymond Green is the single most over-emotional player in NBA history," Bayless said. "Always on a hair trigger to go completely over the emotional edge and cheap shot an opponent."
Skip Bayless says referees are reluctant to officiate Draymond Green fairly
During his podcast, Skip Bayless also pointed out referees' apparent reluctance to officiate Draymond Green fairly.
According to Bayless, Green regularly gets away with questionable fouls, contributing to his propensity to get entangled in controversies.
"(Green's foul) was not reviewed at the moment because refs often look the other way on Draymond's dirty plays because there are just so many of them and because he's just so popular," Bayless said.
Nevertheless, Green has been suspended six times through 13 campaigns, including two suspensions last season that amounted to 17 games. So, the NBA could crack down on the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year again if he continues putting his opponents' physical well-being at risk.
