Donovan Mitchell playfully teases career switch with 6-word tweet

The Cleveland Cavaliers have locked down Donovan Mitchell's services this offseason after a lengthy negotiation. However, if the five-time All-Star's joke, which he posted on X, is to be taken seriously, the Cavs might be without a superstar for the upcoming season.

In his post where he tagged Pat McAfee, Mitchell joked about leaving the basketball court and switching careers. He would still be playing sports, but if it were true, he would instead be seen on the gridiron lining up on the offense.

This is what Mitchell posted on X, formerly known as Twitter.

"Guess I'm a running back now," along with a pair of cry-laughing emojis.

McAfee, who used to be a punter and has since become an analyst, replied to Donovan Mitchell, giving three cry-laughing emojis before telling Mitchell that he would excel as a football player:

"You'd be GREAT"

It seemingly comes out of nowhere, as the Cleveland Cavaliers guard had never indicated his interest in playing football before. More than likely, this is just a joke between two people that has made its way to social media.

There's a chance that Mitchell could do well as an NFL running back. He possesses the athleticism and the speed to outrun defenders. He needs to become stronger to break past defenses to get to the open field, though.

Donovan Mitchell predicts the two teams likely to win the Western Conference next season

Donovan Mitchell, on the 'Million Dollaz Worth of Game' podcast that premiered on YouTube on Aug. 4, was asked which team was likely to win the Western Conference and make the Finals in the 2025 Playoffs.

Surprisingly, Mitchell didn't mention the Dallas Mavericks who were last year's Western Conference champions. Instead, he named two other teams.

The first he named was the Minnesota Timberwolves, who entered last season's playoffs as the third seed. According to Mitchell, it seems like the Wolves have figured out the answer to win their conference.

The second team he named was the OKC Thunder, who won the most games and therefore was the No. 1 seed from the West last season. Mitchell cited the fact that they have seemingly got better with the acquisition of Alex Caruso, whom they got from the Chicago Bulls by trading away Josh Giddey.

Caruso, who has won the NBA title with the LA Lakers in 2020, provides veteran leadership to the young OKC core led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Caruso wasn't the only acquisition by the Thunder this summer, though, as they also secured the services of center Isaiah Hartenstein.

As for the Timberwolves, the growth of Anthony Edwards has propelled them into contention. They also have a great supporting cast in the likes of Naz Reid and Nickeil Alexander-Walker as well as reliable veterans like Mike Conley and Joe Ingles.

Considering all these factors, it's no doubt that Donovan Mitchell named the Timberwolves and the Thunder as the most likely teams to win the West.
