NBA fans clown Drake for rocking Michael Jordan-esque outfit: "Trying make MJ proud"
Grammy-winning rapper and Toronto Raptors superfan Drake had an airball of a different sort this weekend. He sent X into overdrive when he ventured out in what appeared to be a full getup modeled after his inner Airness, Micheal Jordan, and fans didn't hesitate to troll the rapper on social media.
One fan reacted to his getup by tweeting:
"Trying make MJ proud," followed by laughing emojis.
Canadian rapper Drake took a break from his usual threads to attend his son Adonis' soccer game, giving a whole different kind of dad look. Flouting the casual wear rules, the 37-year-old upgraded his look with a cream T-shirt, high-waist brown wide-leg trousers and a preppy sweater hanging on his shoulders. That sophistication was topped off by some sunglasses for major Kentucky Derby vibes.
However, some clowned Drake for his resemblance to Michael Jordan, trolling him:
"Drake stealing Michael Jordan style now?? He gotta be stopped," one fan posted.
"N***a out there dressed like micheal Jordan," another fan tweeted.
"Jordan on the course with Ahmad Rashad and the fellas," @here2_b_nosey wrote.
Fans flooded Twitter with memes and jokes, mercilessly clowning Drake for the outfit. Some comments centered on the audacity of calling himself the GOAT.
"GOATs don't have to call themselves a GOAT," one fan commented
"Careful talking about goats. They may start telling truths about you. Sure they know some stuff," another fan wrote.
The artist is known for his bold style of dressing, and his clothes are often trending on social media. This time, he made it all about his boy Adonis playing. The 6-year-old wore a No. 25 soccer jersey, showing off his soccer skills. Born to French artist Sophie Brussaux, Adonis has already tested the spotlight, starring in his father's music video "8 AM in Charlotte."
Drake's History of NBA Name-drops: From Michael Jordan to James Harden
Drake's love for basketball shines through his music. He's been name-dropping Michael Jordan for years, and more recently name-dropped James Harden. Drake has a way of keeping the spirit of the NBA, both old and new, alive in his music with his classic and more recent hits alike.
Drake's admiration for Jordan extends far beyond just his courtside seats, however. Fans may recall what he said on the epic 2016 diss track "Back to Back" in which he compared himself to Jordan's iconic 1996-97 Bulls championship season. That wasn't his initial MJ shoutout.
In 2011, Drake released the intro track, "Over My Dead Body," from his chart-topping album, "Take Care" (also released in 2011) and tapped the six-time NBA champion to serve as the voiceover on it. The release landed Drake his first Grammy while establishing his admiration for the basketball star as well.
