Drake weighs in on Raptors possibly retiring DeMar DeRozan's jersey after 'Not Like Us' drama: "I'll go up there and pull it down myself"
By the looks of it, Drake still hasn't forgiven DeMar DeRozan. After being cordial and sharing a good relationship that seemingly went up in smoke after the former Toronto Raptors star's appearance in Kendrick Lamar's music video "Not Like Us." The rapper took a shot a DeRozan during their game vs the Sacramento Kings before which the franchise retired Vince Carter's No. 15 jersey.
While speaking to the TSN broadcast, Drake was not a fan of seeing the Raptors potentially retire DeRozan's jersey at some point in the future.
"If you ever put up a DeRozan banner, I'll go up there and pull it down myself," the artist said.
In addition to the cold response, Drake further fueled the fire by calling DeRozan a "goof" on the live broadcast, and videos picked up footage of him insulting the Kings' forward on his way off the court following the team's 131-128 loss. Drake's comments on DeMar DeRozan also had social media reacting with most fans speculating that the bond between the two didn't exist anymore.
On the game front, DeRozan had a field day with 33 points, three rebounds, and four assists against his former team. However, it wasn't enough to fend off the Raptors spearheaded by RJ Barrett's 31-point outing.
DeMar DeRozan responds to Drake's take after the Kings' loss
Speaking to the reporters in the aftermath of the game, DeMar DeRozan opted to take the high road when he addressed the comments from the 'God's Plan' star. He had a hilarious response to Drake, saying:
"He's gonna have a long way to climb to take it down... Tell him good luck."
DeRozan and Drake's relationship dates back to the All-Star forward's time in Toronto he even referred to Drake as a brother. The artist had also mentioned DeRozan in 'Lemon Pepper Freestyle' praising DeRozan and the love the city had for the former star.
Their relationship took an ugly turn when rapper Kendrick Lamar had his beef with Drake in a rap battle between the two. DeRozan starred in the video and was also mentioned in the lyrics that suggested that the Raptors didn't deserve to have the ball player in their fold.
To add to the drama, DeMar DeRozan also took the stage along with the likes of Russell Westbrook when Lamar performed live. Now, it appears that whatever relationship the two shared is severed. Only time will tell if a reconciliation happens in the days to come.
