Draymond Green drops hint about retiring from Warriors

Draymond Green and the Golden State Warriors are at a confusing stage in their long-lasting marriage. The power forward has been involved in trade rumors dating back to his issues with Jordan Poole. But the team elected to stick with Green over Poole following their 2022 NBA Championship.

Since their latest championship, the Warriors have seen one of their three future Hall of Famers leave in Klay Thompson, moving him to the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade.

The Warriors were involved in trade rumors centered around Paul George. But they were hesitant to move off of Jonathan Kuminga despite Draymond Green starting for much of last season.

In a recent interview with Jeff Teague on the Club 520 podcast, Draymond offered some insight on his future with the Warriors.

"I'm on the wrong side of my downslide. Like, I'm headed into year 13. I probably got two more," Green stated on the podcast.

Whether those two seasons will be played in Golden State will have to wait to be seen, as Green continues to be involved in trade rumors due to his massive contract.

Last season, Draymond Green averaged 8.6 points, 6.0 assists and 7.2 rebounds in 27.1 minutes per game for Golden State. The veteran forward started in 52 out of 55 games, despite missing time with an indefinite suspension after a flurry of ejections.

Draymond Green was reinstated from his indefinite suspension after 12 games, helping the Warriors remain in playoff contention down the stretch of the season.

Without Green, the Warriors were 13-14 last season, versus their 33-22 record with the four-time All-Star on the floor.

Draymond Green speaks on potential Warriors trade

Draymond Green is entering his second year of a four-year, $100 million deal he signed with the Warriors last offseason. This makes him difficult to move as the Warriors look to maximize their championship window around Steph Curry.

Green has been rumored to Utah as Golden State eyes a trade package for Lauri Markkanen.

It's unclear if the Warriors would be willing to part from Green. But their hesitance to move off of Kuminga in a Paul George trade could indicate their preference to move Green over Kuminga.

Golden State could be in for an active offseason as they look to pair Curry with another superstar-caliber player ahead of the 2024-25 NBA season.
