Draymond Green on Klay Thompson’s comeback performance: "When Klay worries about what happens with this team, Klay plays great and we win”
The Golden State Warriors saw a timely resurgence of Klay Thompson in their road game against Houston. With Thompson lighting it up against the Rockets to lead the team to their first away win of the season, Warriors forward Draymond Green offered an insight into the guard's comeback performance.
The Golden State Warriors have had a rather rough start to their 2022-23 campaign. Coming off a title run that saw them in a position to compete for another this season, the Dubs have fallen short of expectations early on.
To add to the internal strife and disappointing turnout from their young players, the Warriors were also plagued by a string of poor performances on the road.
A 0-8 away road record is unbecoming of a title contender. Additionally, the team also saw a key player at a significant low point.
Klay Thompson appeared evidently hobbled at the start of the season. Given the injuries he endured over two years and the title run, it is understandable that Klay finally felt the weight of his injuries catching up to him.
However, this aspect became a matter of discussion for several analysts as they wrote him off as a contributing factor towards the Warriors' success.
The 32-year-old finally came through for the Warriors in their latest win against the Houston Rockets. With Klay catching fire, the Dubs coasted to a 127-120 win.
Thompson's electrifying performance has garnered a lot of attention. However, teammate Draymond Green mentioned that there was little doubt regarding his ability to have such an impact.
During the postgame interview, when asked to comment on what was different for Thompson in the game, Green said:
"Oh, he's being Klay Thompson. He is not worried about what happened with Klay, he's worried about what happens with this team. And when Klay worries about what happens with this team, Klay plays great and we win.
"I'll always say, he's the most competitive guy that I've ever played with. And the most important thing to him has always been winning. At times, we all get away from who we are. In a brotherhood, you need someone to bring you back to who you are. I have no doubt in my mind that if it was me, he'd do the same thing."
Thompson was aware of the underwhelming nature of his performances and the scrutiny it had drawn. However, his confidence in his ability to return was unfazed.
With the support of his teammates, Thompson will also hope to find ways to contribute to the team as they mount a resurgence from their slump.
Klay Thompson catches fire in Houston
The Golden State Warriors ended their eight-game road losing streak on Sunday night against the Houston Rockets. A huge reason for this was the brilliant and timely comeback performance by Klay Thompson.
Thompson had been fairly average over the last five games. Barely scratching 20 points, the guard still found a way to contribute towards the team's efforts. Unfortunately, these didn't result in consistent wins.
However, it was evident that he was due for a huge shooting performance eventually. With a gradual increase in scoring with each outing, Klay finally caught fire at a crucial juncture for the Dubs.
Notching 41 points on 76.9% shooting from beyond the arc, Thompson looked nigh unstoppable on Sunday.
The performance blended perfectly with Steph Curry's 33-point barrage. The Splash Brothers truly put on a show at the Toyota Center.
