"Everyone is expecting me to be salty" - Marcus Smart weighs in on Celtics' Championship run without him on roster

Memphis Grizzlies player Marcus Smart has expressed his thoughts on his former team's championship victory. The former Boston Celtics player appeared on the Tidal League podcast, where he congratulated his former teammates and put his heart out in front of the people.

"I know everyone is expecting me to be salty," Marcus said.

The former Celtics player was asked about his experience playing alongside Boston stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The Grizzlies star did not hesitate to share his experience with the fans and said that a young Tatum and Brown made him 'watch out.'

"It was great to see those two guys come in and just dominante. When they stepped on the floor it was like 'we gotta watch out.'

He also mentioned 'Scary Terry', Terry Rozier for his time at the Celtics, and highlighted his contribution to the Celtics in his time at the franchise. He shouted out the Jays, congratulating them and saying that they deserved the 2023-24 NBA championship.

Smart called them out for their incredible hard work throughout their entire career, highlighting that the Celtics duo hadn't skipped a day and he was there to witness their grind.

Smart spent nine years of his career at the Boston Celtics and was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies on June 22, 2023. He was a part of an epic three-way deal that brought the Latvian international Kristaps Porzingis to the Celtics, who became an important player for the Celtics in their recent championship run.

Marcus Smart could reunite with his former Celtics coach in a trade

Just after spending a year at the Memphis Grizzlies, Marcus Smart can be on a move to another team. Trusted NBA Insider Marc Stein has reported that the former Boston Celtics player could see himself bidding farewell to Memphis and going to Houston.

"The idea that the Rockets could trade Wednesday’s No. 3 overall pick to Memphis for No. 9 and Marcus Smart, so the Grizzlies can draft Donovan Clingan is being mentioned with increasing regularity by various league insiders," Stien wrote.

Smart would reunite with his former coach, Ime Udoka, who was the head coach for the Boston Celtics for the 2021-22 season. Udoka was suspended and later on fired for alleged misconduct. He took a break from coaching after his suspension and spent the 2022-23 season on hiatus. He came back to the Houston Rockets and took command of the team in the 2023-24 season, guiding them to a 41-4 record.
