"Everything I've learned is through him": Alex Sarr chokes up while honoring brother Olivier Sarr after getting drafted No. 2

The NBA Draft is live and Alex Sarr is off the board. The French talent was drafted as the second overall pick by the Washington Wizards.

After being drafted, Saar did a quick interview with an ESPN reporter present at the Barclay Center. The reporter asked the Frenchman about his brother Olivier Sarr serving as an inspiration for him and what the Oklahoma City Thunder player shared about playing in the league.

Saar started to choke up while answering the reporter. His voice broke down as he explained the importance of his brother to him.

"He shared a lot. Everything I have learned is through him and he gave me all his knowledge," Alex Sarr said with a choked up voice. "It's special to have someone like him in my corner."

The reporter noticed the voice breakdown of Alex Sarr and asked him the reason behind his getting emotional while talking about it all. The newly drafted Wizard said that he knew what it felt like to be undrafted. He highlighted that becoming a top pick after what he went through triggered some strong emotions.

Who is Alex Sarr's brother Olivier Sarr?

Alex Saar's elder brother Oliver Sarr is a player for the Oklahoma City Blue in the NBA G League and has signed a two-way contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Olivier has had a rocky career in the NBA so far. The Frenchman had entered the 2021 NBA draft in which Cade Cunningham was the top draft pick. However, Oliveir went undrafted and played for the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Summer League.

Later on, he was signed with the Oklahoma City Thunder only to be waived by the franchise. He started playing for the Oklahoma City Blue shortly after and was later offered a two-way contract by the Thunder in February 2022.

Alex Sarr's older brother signed the contract and stayed with the franchise for a little while, but he was waived in April of the same year.

He played with the Phoenix Suns in Summer League and signed a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland waived him later and he was re-acquired by the OKC Blue.

He signed a two-way contract with the Thunder yet again and this time made an appearance in the NBA. Olivier Sarr played 15 games for the Thunder in the 2023-24 season and averaged 2.3 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.1 assists with 6.5 minutes of average game time.
