This season, the Super Bowl is scheduled to be held in New Orleans on Feb. 9. This is not the first time that Lamar will perform at the Super Bowl. In 2022, he was one of the big names who took the stage alongside Eminem, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.

Kendrick Lamar seemed excited about the performance as well, via BBC:

"Rap music is still the most impactful genre to date. And I'll be there to remind the world why. They got the right one."

Kendrick Lamar's selection came at a very interesting time as he is involved in a rap battle with Drake. With his selection to perform at the Super Bowl, fans will argue that Lamar has the upper hand in the beef.

Jay-Z discusses reason behind Kendrick Lamar's selection for Super Bowl halftime show

Kendrick Lamar's selection came perhaps at the best time for him, while it was not great for Drake. Lamar's selection pushed the narrative in his favor, especially when Jay-Z spoke in his favor.

For the last five years, Jay-Z has allegedly been the man who is largely responsible for selecting the artist to perform during the Super Bowl. Since 2019, the legendary rapper has been in partnership with the NFL through Roc Nation to organize the Super Bowl Halftime Shows

When the "99 Problems" singer was asked about the reason for the selection of Lamar, he said:

“His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come. He is a once-in-a-generation artist.”

While the selection of Kendrick Lamar seems purely based on his talent and influence, some believe Jay-Z is trying to give Lamar the upper hand over Drake in the rap battle.

Hip-hop commentator DJ Akademiks alleged that Jay-Z was still upset with Drake's diss track “Charged Up". According to Akademiks, the selection of Lamar will once again ignite the beef between Jay-Z and Drake.
