Fans go crazy as huge fight erupts between Donovan Mitchel and Dillon Brooks: “Donovan Mitchell, confirmed Shannon Sharpe supporter”

Dillon Brooks grabbed the headlines again. He's on the front page yet again because of another scuffle that could have gotten very ugly if cooler heads did not prevail.

Brooks, based on film review, seemingly and deliberately took a shot at Donovan Mitchell’s groin after a failed layup in the third quarter. Basketball fans promptly trolled the Memphis Grizzlies guard/forward for his latest controversial incident:

“Donovan Mitchell, confirmed Shannon Sharpe supporter — noted.”

@YahooSports Brooks acts like he's a somebody when he's a nobody in the league.
@TheHoopCentral Arrest that thug Dillion brooks
Dillon Brooks wanted to run up on Shay Sharpe with Donovan Mitchell throwing him around? No way

This one might be a little overboard, despite Dillon Brooks’ “dirty” reputation:

"We are the point where someone needs to undercut Brooks and end his season. He needs taught a lesson before he ruins another career, GP2 will never be the same"

@TheHoopCentral Nothing surprising from Dillon Brooks. Glad Mitchell retaliated.
@TheHoopCentral Dillon Brooks is the fakest tough guy in the league that bum should be in Taiwan

Last month, Brooks was amid a near scuffle that involved three-time Super Bowl winner Shannon Sharpe. The former Oregon star also said some rather interesting things about the current Fox Sports analyst after the said incident.

Dillon Brooks earned the ire of Golden State fans in last year’s semifinal series between the Golden State Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies. His swipe at Gary Payton II, who went for a layup, caused the Warriors guard to fall, resulting in a fractured elbow.

Golden State head coach Steve Kerr emphatically slammed Brooks’ “dirty” play and called him out for “breaking the code.” The Memphis Grizzlies enforcer showed a mix of remorse and defiance during a media interaction after the said incident.

While what happened to Gary Payton II seemed like it could be unintentional, the hit against Donovan Mitchell was far from it. After missing a layup, Brooks clearly rolled towards the Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star, took a quick look at him and hit his groin.

He even had the nerve to look surprised and upset when Mitchell slammed the ball at him. “Spida” grabbed, pushed Brooks to the ground and went after him before he was held back. A member of the Memphis Grizzlies coaching staff heroically wrapped his arms around Brooks to prevent things from escalating.

Dillon Brooks and the Memphis Grizzlies are reeling

The Memphis Grizzlies have not had plenty of celebrating in their last eight games.
The Memphis Grizzlies have not had plenty of celebrating in their last eight games.

After stringing together an NBA-best 11 straight wins that started at the end of December, the Memphis Grizzlies have struggled badly. They have lost five straight, including the blown game against the LA Lakers.

Memphis have gone 1-7 in their last eight games. They hold a 32-20 record, which is still second in the tightly-contested Western Conference. They better get their act together as they can easily drop down the standings.

Dillon Brooks is part of the reason why the Grizzlies have struggled of late. He’s averaging just 9.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.3 assists during that stretch. His shooting has considerably dropped, hitting just 35.1% of his shots, including 20.8% of his three-point shots.

The Memphis Grizzlies effectively taking on the modern day bad-boys title is not something I saw happening so quickly…

Dillon Brooks leading the charge with this spinning backhand to Donovan Mitchell’s junk. What a scene. I love it.

For the season, he’s averaging 15.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 47 games. He made a game-clinching block against Darius Garland the last time the Memphis Grizzlies and the Cleveland Cavaliers met.

Dillon Brooks' biggest mark tonight against the Cavs was a deliberate hit on Donovan Mitchell, which could merit suspension after review.
