"They're not better they’re just more disciplined in bed", "Please only interview dudes who averaged more than 7 points" - Fans mercilessly roast Boston Celtics' Grant Williams for his comments about Warriors' title run
The Boston Celtics put in a lot of work to make it to the 2022 NBA Finals. Although they lost the series 4-2 to the Golden State Warriors, their run was incredible.
One of the key pieces of the Celtics team was Grant Williams, whose contributions off the bench were massive. On "The Long Shot" podcast, Williams stated that the Warriors were not the better team and that they won because they showed better discipline.
"I still will say confidently to this day, they weren't the better team. They were the more disciplined team."
Grant Williams' take did not sit well with many fans on Twitter, who wasted no time in roasting the Celtics player.
What went wrong for the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals?
The Boston Celtics had the best defensive record in the league going into the 2022 NBA Finals. But that was bound to be tested against a Warriors side consisting of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole among others.
The 17-time champions got off to a bad start as they let Curry take control in the very first quarter of the series. He went on to score 21 points in the first quarter. Ime Udoka made the required adjustments and the Celtics came away with a win.
But containing Golden State for an entire series was never going to be easy and the Celtics ended up losing four of the next five games.
Andrew Wiggins was the surprise package for the Warriors. The former No. 1 excelled on both ends of the floor, and his ability to drain tough jumpers and crash the boards made life difficult for the Eastern Conference champions.
The Celtics pinned their hopes on Jayson Tatum, but he averaged only 21.5 points per game on 36.7% shooting from the field.
Another problem that hurt the young team was silly turnovers. In the six-game series, the Boston Celtics gave the ball away a total of 97 times, averaging 16.2 turnovers per game.
They will now shift their focus to the 2022-23 season. The team made big moves by signing Malcolm Brogdon and Danilo Gallinari during free agency. Their aim will be to get back on the biggest stage and bring the championship to Boston.
