Ahead of the 2022-23 NBA season, people were caught off guard after Jimmy Butler showed up to the Miami Heat's media day with a new hairstyle. ESPN's Brian Windhorst believes that Butler did this to troll fans for the entire season.
Jimmy Butler is coming off an excellent third season with the Heat and is fired up for his squad. As one of the most vocal players in the league, Butler can surprise people with his various antics. This year, he had dreadlocks during the media day and fans thought he'd keep it for the rest of the year. However, when they started their preseason games, Butler returned to his usual braided hairstyle.
Brian Windhorst assumed that the six-time All-Star did this to troll the fans. Butler is aware that the image he had would last the entire season and will be used for promotional materials. Windhorst said this:
"There might not be a bigger troll in the NBA than Miami's Jimmy Butler…He knew these pictures would be used for the rest of the season in promotional materials," Windhorst said.

Despite the reception he received for his hair, Butler is still playing exceptionally well for the Heat. In their first four games this season, he's averaging the highest points per game with the team so far. He's averaging 23 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting 49% from the field and 60% from downtown.
But that hasn't translated to wins. So far, the Heat are 1-3 in the Eastern Conference. Their next game is against the red-hot Portland Trail Blazers, who remain undefeated. The Heat are looking forward to snapping the Blazers' win-streak and getting back to the winning column.
The reason why Jimmy Butler sat out the majority of the fourth quarter against the Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors handed the Heat their loss of the season after an incredible rebounding performance from former Heat player, Precious Achiuwa. Coming off the bench, Achiuwa owned the glass with 22 rebounds and helped the Raptors win with a final score of 98-90.
For the majority of the fourth quarter, Butler was on the bench and only joined in with 3:38 left on the clock. The game was still close by the time he was subbed in, but the momentum of the Raptors carried them to a solid win against the former Eastern Conference champions. In a postgame interview, Erik Spoelstra shared why Butler remained on the bench for a good chunk of the fourth period.
"I didn’t have a timeout. That frustrated the heck out of me…In retrospect, I probably should’ve," Spoelstra said.
